Close to St Vincent's Hospital, open nice and early (I was there at 7am). The service was great, and I loved the omlette! The young man who served me (one of the owners) was a genuine, lovely person and I thank you for starting my day off on a positive note

We were staying nearby this weekend and popped in a couple of times for a coffee/juice or snack. Each time we were welcomed by friendly staff and quick curtious service. The quality of fare never wavered from impressive. We shall return

Our first visit here the other day was quite a unique day. We were moving into the area and were quite stressed from the moving. We also got caught in a sudden deluge of rain that is quite unique to Melbourne's changeable weather. Anyway we were starving and ventured into the Smith St area to find some lunch. A few... More

It's our family quest to trial a cafe in Melbourne's top Lifestyle areas. This week it's the Fitzroy area. Walking into Arcadia the restaurant is presented with amazing homemade good quality food. We were served immediately and enjoyed the beautiful music! Our food came out in great timing and tasted and looked beautiful! Loved the atmosphere, awesome food and great... More

I have never felt the need to review a place but this was too bad not say anything. Two friends ordered the vegetarian big breakfast purely for the advertised haloumi and avocado. When it arrived it had no haloumi or avocado. The waitresses reasoning was that they change the menu a lot. They'd obviously changed the menu between us ordering... More

I had the corn fritters with poached egg, avocado smash, bacon, chipotle mayo and a weird salad of rocket tomato and capers. On paper it seems okay, but on tasting, the flavours of the dish are very confused. The caper salad gave the corn fritters a weird vinegary taste, and I am not sure how capers, chipotle, feta and bacon... More

We visited Melbourne for a week, staying in Fitzroy and Arcadia was a short stroll from our AirBnB. We ended up eating there three times in a week. The smashed avo (mixed in with mint and feta) on GF toast with poached eggs was sublime and I had it twice. The garlic and rosemary rosti with pulled pork was also... More

My eggs on rösti was delicious although the rösti was doughy inside and the wet ingredients on top stole whatever crispiness there might have been. Service was very good. Portions were generous. I would go back. There was quite a bit on the menu that looked worth trying.

Good coffee however the food was average (poached eggs overcooked, corn fritters cold and the generous amount of capers made the salad very salty), and overpriced.

Staying in Fitzroy

Neighbourhood Profile
Fitzroy
Fitzroy is an unusual blend of working class roots, hip gentrification, and a robust bohemian work ethic. Along Brunswick Street and its side streets, you'll find little independent shops where local clothes and furniture designers display their wares. There are specialist bookshops, funky record bars, and quality vintage clothing shops where browsing is the next best thing to buying. Gertrude Street is famous for its cuisine and art galleries, but if you want to buy an old-fashioned snooker table, there is a shop for that too. Small pubs still exist, tucked away on the corners of suburban side streets that serve up traditional Sunday roasts. Live music abounds, and the street performers play so hard you worry to tip them would ruin their concentration. Venture to the Spanish quarter on Johnston Street and you may even find street dancing. It is all happening amidst off-beat street murals and the shuffle of a very funky neighbourhood that embraces both old and new.
