Best place in don det. We came here twice, and second time we chose to walk 25 mins only to eat and go back. Amazing food.

The omelette was quite boring, quite oily too. The juice was canned (shoot me). The restaurant is nice but it feels too much like I am in Europe - they start giving you the "pay and GTFO" look as soon as you have your last...bite. Really clean bathroom. Quite surronding.More

Great and really tasty food for good prices. The currys are amazing. Everything is fresh prepared. You can enjoy yummy shakes, you have a big variety for breakfast, e.g. Müsli with fruit salad, milk and yogurt on top, farmer's breakfast, pancake and so on. You...can order Laotian or Thai dishes, but also western (especially German, Swiss) food. The western food really tastes like home. For dessert I highly recommend to try the banana chocolate rice pudding with peanuts - so delicious. Not only the food is good also the ambience: nice terrace next to the river, tables with chairs or mattresses to relax, warm light, good music. Don't hesitate to go there.More

Best meal we had on don det by far. Also one of the best for ambiance and view. No other restaurants came near it. Fish needs to be ordered the day before which was the only disappointment

The restaurant is fantastic, staff very friendly and...especially Lutz will help you in any we he can. Great value for money, green surroundings, hammocks etc. Everything was great!More

On New Year’s Day we were pretty hungover and wanted a good breakfast. This place was recommended to us by a lady who had been on the island on vacation for 3 weeks and had eaten there most nights. We went and had the rosti...which was a small portion but tasted good. The Arabic coffee is really nice too. We went back to dinner as we enjoyed our time there in the morning. Dinner was great - I would recommend any of the curries or the pad Thai. The German owner is very chilled and gave us a free shot after dinner. The wife and daughter don’t speak much English so messed up my coffee order. But no big deal. Overall would recommend this place for sure.More

We went to Mama Leuah due to the great ratings and we were so blessed! Not only did we meet really great people over there - the restaurant has a great vibe and is placed on a great location near the Mekong. And the food!...It was marvelous!!! Such good western foods, they tasted like in Germany. Absolutely delicious, so that we had to come back one more time. Also the owner is a very friendly and happy person! Thank you for the great experience!More

We have been travelling for four weeks now with our 15 year old boys through Nepal, Thailand, Cambodia and Laos and we unanimously declared Mama Leuah to be the joint winner so far (tying with an Indian place in Pokhara). The food was delicious, the...service great and the setting and the restaurant beautiful. We stayed on Don Khone for three nights and cycled/walked from there on two evenings to have dinner at Mama Leuah on Don Det. The owner Lutz is a German expat and he runs the restaurant together with his wife. The food is a great mix of Asian/Laotian and western cuisine (Not sure how far you have to travel from Don Det to get the next “Kartoffelsalat” or “Frikadellen”). We stuck to the Asian dishes and everything we had was delicious + the portions were of a very decent size! They also offer nice looking accomodation on the sun rise side of Don Det (can’t write anything other about them as we stayed somewhere else). On the second night we got some Laotian Schnaps with lime - yummy - Thanks Lutz!More

Bit further away from all the other areas but worth it for the peace. Had dinner here, the setting is fabulous, food good, decent price and food portions are big. Would recommend.

We were staying at the top of the island so we got our head torches and headed the 25 min walk to Mama Leuhs. We had heard good things about this restaurant and we wasn't disappointed. It's a beautifully maintained place and just relaxing spot...to be in. The service was great and the food was wonderful. We had a lovely unrushed evening here and if we had stayed on Don Det longer we would have returned. One of the best places to eat on the island. Worth the walk in the dark to get there, just don't forget your torches!More

We had dinner here and it was delicious. I can highly recommend the Bruschetta and the vegetarian yellow curry. Lutz and his wife are very friendly and the restaurant is beautiful. The home made liquor is also amazing!

I don't have a photo of the menu, but I can tell you this: Excellent selection of curries and soups. Best Massaman curry I ever ate. Also, some German-inspired dishes. The prices are fair for the curries, especially since... More
