Not so much variety, but nice and traditional food. Friendly staff and familiar environment. The rooms are traditional but comfortable, with great views over the river.

We are a backpacker couple. We went to boathouse for dinner for a little treat as it was my bf birthday. We had catfish fish n' chips and catfish medallion. Both were very good, with high quality ingredients and nice presentation! We spent 18€ for...the two of us with a big beer bottle and two cocktails, more than the average on the island but if u are a backpacker looking for a little treat is definitely worth it. The lady was very kind and also offered us a drink, lao lao with lime and honey (very nice)! Recommended!More

I went to the Boat house to have a juice during sunset time. I enjoyed a beautiful moment comfortably lying in a bamboo hammock drinking a fresh juice . The owners were very nice and I highly recommend the place .

The Boathouse was a lovely place to stay with the loveliest, most hospitable owners (Mike and Tip). Both made an effort to make us feel comfortable and welcome and the food was absolutely amazing! I was really sick one of the days and Tip tried...her best to make sure I was okay, helping out in anyway she could and she also rearranged our bus to Vientiane for us as we stayed an extra night to get over the illness! We stayed in a twin bungalow which was spacious and basic with an ensuite bathroom. The toilet is a bucket flush toilet and the shower is cold which is actually perfect in the heat of the island. There is a fan in the room which keeps it cool enough. There were also two hammocks outside our room to relax in. On our final night we stayed in a double bungalow that had no bathroom which was also basic but fine for the night. Bathrooms were just next to restaurant less than 100m away. They also have the sweetest dog called Bamboo who was looking after two puppies when we were there who were absolutely adorable!! I definitely recommend this place, it really felt like a home away from home.More

During our stay on the island we came to this place again and again. Mike and his wife are really friendly hosts and all the food we tried at this place was really good, too. We were the with our two kids, it's a very...family friendly place. We also did a boatstour with Mike who showed us the 4000 islands in a very personal way. We can really recommend visit The Boathouse.More

Both Mike and Tip are super friendly. Great atmosphere here, a bit away from the "central place". We visited during low season which was perfect when coming from the hectic Hanoi. Don't be afraid to ask them for help or tips around the islands, they're...more than willing to help you out. Recommend. (Tip is a great chef as well, saved us many hungry evenings).More

At the Boathouse you will find excellent food, great friendly people (bountip and mike) and if you want to stay nice bungalows as well. Bountip is an excellent cook and the catfish with potato-mash is not typical loa-food but taste wounderful. It's a great relaxing...place and i always love to stay here for a few days.More

Ordered the fish and chips with deep fried catfish. Was really surprised by the taste of the salad that came with it, very well balanced and tasteful. The fresh deep fried catfish had a great crust and good taste. Chips were better than the other...chips I had in Asia. I also really liked the style of the restaurant and decoration. Staff was kind and friendly.More

We found this restaurant on a hot day while searching for the perfect bungalow. Among Laotian food you can also order the national foods of Neighbouring countries or some more European meals like Burger. Especially good was the offer of specialties, that weren't even on...the menu but were at one evening just recommended by the very nice German owner Mike or his even nicer wife Tip. My Husband had special salty fish made in Banana leafs (unfortunately I cant eat fish, so I didn't try). At one point we had chicken filet of best quality with a special egg salad and mashed potatoes, which was soooo good. My recommendation of the menu is the yellow Curry, which has a decent spicyness. Also, while eating you will hear a lot of Don Det-Gossip which makes for good entertainment! I loved it there and hope to be back soon.More

Mike and his lovely wife Tip have created a little paradise for backpackers with this restaurant/ guest-house. We spent three nights in one of the very basic but clean huts at the riverfront and enjoyed Tips excellent cooking every night. The Boathouse is located halfway...across the island, well offside Don Det's "party-mile". It's the perfect place for the weary traveller to rest for a couple of days (or weeks), but also to enjoy an occasional boat trip with the German host, who knows the Mekong around the 4000 Islands for more than a decade now and thus makes for a very knowledgeable guide. Long story short: Great place, great people, once you stayed here you want to come back.More

We were a little disappointed to be honest. There was only one dish. But nobody really told us. We had to find out on our own. The staff didn't seem to be very interested. The food was ok though.More

Perfect location! It was not too far from the French bridge or the village. Peaceful and quiet compared to the northern part of Don Det. The owners are amazing heartfelt people and they offer tours on a private boat to explore the 4000 islands for...a very affordable price. The bungalow is nice. A little more spacious than what I'm used to which is a plus. It has a fan and a private bathroom. A very nice view to the river from the terrace. Had the best meal since I left home in the restaurant. I highly recommend this place!More
