This place is reason enough to visit Don Det! I went several times during my 5 day stay on the island and was delighted with every dish I ordered. Friendly staff as well - cute kids helping out too. Right on the Mekong river /w...fans. Screw that other restaurant you're thinking about eating at! Eat here or you deserve the tasteless crap you'll otherwise be served elsewhere! Kapeesh?More

We had an extremely good dinner at this place. The Indian owner is very nice and food was delicious. It is not the prettiest restaurant on the Island but the food was very good. If you like spices this is also the place to be....We were asked how spicy we eat and both meals were perfect. On the rest of the Island for us the food could have needed a little more spice.More

Pleasant staff, comfortable, good location but 2 of the drinks which I asked for they hadn’t got. Ordered a vegetable biryani, medium spice, it was tasteless, oily and over cooked, I couldn’t eat it, the plain naan and water melon were nice though. I love...Indian food but there are far better options on the islandMore

Tried all the other Indian restaurants on the island and liked Datta best. Came here 3 times and it was very good every time. It seems low key and has super delicious dishes and has a very kind and quiet host.

We originally dropped in to change dollars as they had the best rate on the island. Staff were so friendly and welcoming that we stopped for breakfast. I asked them if they could make me puri bhaji as it was not on the menu. Of...course they said and it was wonderful. My friend had an omlette which was equally good and served with 2 baguettes. All washed down with large strong cups of lao coffee. Good service with a smile.More

We visited the restaurant early in December last year after having found the recommendation on Lonely Planet. It's only around 5 minutes on foot from where most of the restaurants and bars on the island are and absolutely worth going: We didn't have to wait...for too long even though we were a group of seven, the portions were big, and the food was delicious! In the end, we had a chat with the very lovely owner who is also the chef - all of us agree that if you're on Don Det, you should definitely go there to eat. Preferably rather in the beginning, so if you like it as much as we did, you can always go again! ;)More

The food here is absolutely amazing, if you fancy a change from your typical laos/thai/Cambodian but stil don't fancy easting eastern, eat here. The chicken samosas, pakora, and chicken tikka masala are absolutely amazing. We have stopped off here every day for the past 4...days whether for a sit down meal or just to take away. Knowing very little about Don Det on arrival, I was very surprised to find an authentic Indian in such a remote island. The staff are talkative and friendly, and during the less busy periods are more than happy for a chat.More

We came here based on previous excellent reviews. Not sure if we had bad luck, but we had a very mediocre experience. We were four people and each ordered a different item. All were very bland and I wondered whether my chicken tikka was fully...cooked (it was very dark so difficult to see). While the personal was friendly, we really expected much better.More

The food here is awesome. Better Indian food than I normally eat in Amsterdam. The host and the chef are very friendly. They prepare some of the meals next to the seating area so you can see him cook. Shakes & Lassi's are also great....Coffee not so much. We ate here 2 nights out of 5, had breakfast here 4 days out of 5.More

Considering how isolated and remote Don Det is, it is surprising to find that it has a couple of decent Indian restaurants. If you fancy something different from Thai/Lao favorites like fried pork and basil, this is a good place for surprisingly authentic Indian flavours....We had three mains with naan bread and rice. They were all quite spicy. We had aloo palak, channa masala and chicken tikka, all of which were quite decent. There is also a good range of alcoholic drinks, juices and soft-drinks. Prices are quite reasonable overall. The furniture is in the low-key local style with axe pillows, woven mats and low tables.More
