The Flame Factory brings wood fired pizza, flame grilled burgers and rare bred Clovelly Longhorn steaks to the historic Appledore quay side Hello from the Flame Factory, we're not trying to be big; we're only in Appledore - family owned and run by Jayne, Angie, Matt & Brian. we're not trying to be clever; we just want to make great pizzas, burgers, steaks for folks to enjoy in our beautiful Georgian building that stands tall on the Appledore quay front overlooking the calming waters of the estuary. We are proud of the variety offered in our menu; we've developed vegetarian and vegan lines that are packed full of flavour and as we thought about how to provide gluten free at the planning stages of our kitchens we offer gluten free pizza bases & burger buns prepared in our gluten free zone. This place is so popular we couldn’t get a table all week!! So we settled for a takeaway. So I can only comment on the quality of the pizza and service. The pizza was excellent thin and crispy, perfect crust and I could taste the smoke from the oven? Generous toppings and great value Would like to comment on the young man who served me when I ordered and picked up our food. He was extremely helpful and I have to admire his patience when dealing with a customer who didn’t like the waiting time. Next time we stay in Appledore I’m gonna book two weeks before

Takeaway pizza was good

We get a takeaway pizza from here every time we visit appledore and it’s always really tasty. Only small issue is they put a lot of vegan cheese on the vegan pizzas which tends to go a bit sloppy, I think just a bit less vegan cheese would help the pizza hold its shape a bit more. It’s a bit different to cow cheese in that more is not always better. The chips here are also really good. Only other issue is sometimes left waiting at the takeaway collection point for some time which can be a bit annoying particularly when staff are walking past and not acknowledging you, despite ringing the bell.

A Great Discovery!

After a long journey we were keen to eat locally and were readily accommodated with seats in the restaurant, (outside seating and takeaway options were available). Staff were friendly, helpful and attentive. The ratio of Staff to Guests was impressive as was the attention to detail, in particular the cleanliness and the focus on Covid awareness. The food was wonderful, (we both had pizzas). the whole meal was well presented, good size portions, fairly priced and therefore really good value.

A brilliant evening meal

A brilliant evening meal at the end of a wet and windy week in Westward Ho!. We had visited Appledore earlier in the week and liked the look of the small family run restaurant - needless to say we were not disappointed. The service from arrival was good and we were quickly greeted and seated at our table in the corner. It is a small place and tables are quite close but spacious enough to move around comfortably. After studying the menu, we ordered a camembert to share. The menu is simple - pizzas, burgers or steaks - but there are lots of options and changes can be made easily to suit your dietary needs or tastes. My father in law ordered a pizza, my wife a burger and my mother in law and I ordered the ribeye steak. The steak was delicious, I ordered mine with a pepper sauce but would recommend the mushroom and mustard sauce that my mother in law ordered. The steak was cooked perfectly and was mouthwatering. The burgers and pizzas were thoroughly enjoyed too. We shared two brownies and two cheesecakes and they were equally nice. Would recommend to anyone in the vicinity of Appledore and will be certainly visiting when I visit the area to play golf in April.

Great food

Had heard good reports of this place since it opened and finally got to try it out. Initially the service was a bit slow but clearly front of house noticed and with a good degree of professionalism apologised and from there on in we never looked backed. Atmosphere in the restaurant was good, and I had the best steak I have had for a long time. The menu is restricted to steaks, burgers and pizzas but all appeared to be really good. We had a great time with great food and will be returning.

Delicious

Very pleased we booked in advance for dinner here as part of our holiday to North Devon. The food was absolutely delicious, we were dining with a toddler and the staff made us feel very relaxed and welcome. Loved being able to see the pizzas being made right by our table, not sure if it was deliberate to seat us there but it kept our little one very entertained watching. We ordered the steak and pizza, both of which were lovely, as was the brownie for dessert. Really recommend dining here.

Tried to book for Sat night, but already full. Decided to go for a takeaway and it was a good decision. They did our order of a pizza, a steak and 2 burgers in 20 mins albeit early in the evening. Food was really lovely, and cost very reasonable. Thoroughly recommend and hope to eat in next time.

Delicious!

This place is amazing, but you must book in advance. We tried to visit on Monday evening and it was fully booked, the next availability they had was Thursday, so make sure you book so you don't miss out! The staff here are so attentive and nothing is too much trouble. We tried two of their pizzas and had vegan cheese added to these, both pizza's were very good, the chips are also amazing!! They offer vegan mayonnaise too which is great to have as an option. I didn't expect to have a dessert as they didn't have any vegan dessert's advertised online, but new to the menu was a coco mousse so I had to give it a try, it did not disappoint! If you are visiting Appledore make sure you visit this place!

Holiday Lunch

What a lovely, friendly welcome in these unusual times, we arrived for a late lunch and had the most amazing lamb slouvaki and veg and halloumi skewers, with flatbread and salad, whilst the kids enjoyed pizza. Great food, COVID conscious staff, what a fab find. Thank you.

We went to the flame factory

We went to the flame factory last night. The staff were lovely, although busy, they had time to make us feel really well looked after. The base on these pizzas is just wonderful. You know when you have a big pizza and some people leave the edge of the pizza and just eat the bit with the topping? Well the base is so lovely you dont want to leave any. I had the barbecue chicken one with sweet caramelised onions and barbecue sauce and lashings on cheese....oh my, it was just beautiful. Can’t recommend highly enough, just grateful they aren’t located near me, the diet would really go to pot! ;)

Excellent Meal

Quite simply, a lovely place to eat. Service was excellent, very attentive without being too much so, food was just lovely with great choices and great value all round. We avoided starters so as not to fill up, two very different pizzas and had room for dessert. Where else can you get cheesecake for £4 these days & so good too! Would totally recommend to anyone, but make sure you book early, as it gets filled up very quickly.

Lovely meal in relaxed atmosphere

Every time we walked past the Flame Factory on our Devon holiday, the place was packed and looked really inviting so on our last day we managed to book a table for dinner. We were not disappointed, the welcome was friendly and warm, the service personal and friendly too. Every table was taken. The team at Flame Factory clearly take pride in what they do and offer , the food was lovely and the prices were not ridiculous. It just shows to prove that you do not have to offer a massive menu and steak/pizza/burger are absolutely fine and it doesn't have to break the bank to go out for a meal. It was a very relaxed evening and a perfect ending to our week's holiday in Appledore

A must in North Devon!

Following a glowing review from a seemingly discerning reviewer whose opinion of Bar 62 agreed with ours, along with all the other TA 5 blob reviews I took a punt and booked this for our 2nd night of two in North Devon, and I'm so glad I did, as it was a great way to end our mini break. The welcome was so warm and the service continually friendly despite the place filling out completely plus takeaways, and the excellent food was expertly prepared with incredible efficency by the cook right next to our table. We started with the delicious garlic bread with cheese (natch!) followed by the spicy but very nicey Flame Factory special pizza (seemed rude not to go the whole hog) and my wife had the Portobello Burger which she said was amazing. I finished with the (warm) double chocolate brownie which was unsurprisingly wonderful and we left very full but entirely satiated - perfect! Appledore itself is also a lovely unspoilt traditional estuary village unlike many others that have a very different and tourist orientated feel about them- and IMHO not in a good way! Fyi parking in the road was full but the long stay car park only a few minutes walk away was free from 6pm so all good there too. We will defo be back to North Devon, if only to revisit the Flame Factory...

Best pizza ever

The flame factory has opened up for take away and after self isolating I decided to meet a friend at a safe distance and we had a take away pizza over looking the quay ! The staff were very professional and had set the flame factory up one side to queue one area to order and pay and another to collect. I pre ordered my pizza so they said it would be ready for 5.30. I got there at 5.25 paid where they had a perspex screen and then waited at the collection point and 5.30 on the dot my pizza was ready. And boy did it taste good ! Delicious is an understatement! Thank you flame factory

Simply the Best

My family and I visited today, I had the lamb souvlaki and it's was simply the best I've had since living in Cyprus, the salad was lovely, the flatbread freshly baked and the meat was lean and plenty, I could not fault one single part of it. As for the family there was not a scrap left of the wife's veg souvlaki or the children's pizza's. The food was absolutely faultless, definitely an experience I would like to repeat, and couldn't recommend it enough to anyone. The service was great, but don't forget to book, setting times are in 2 hourly settings which is more than enough time. Thankyou to all
