We were so excited to eat here after reading good reviews and speaking to people locally and we weren't disappointed. We were warmly greeted and the concept of the restaurant was explained to us - small dishes, local ingredients.
My partner is a vegetarian and Im not so we asked about the suitability of the dishes and were happy to go with a real mixed selection. The mixed meat and cheese platter was lovely and we were happy to be told about the local smoked cheddar. The Beer my partner chose was also local and it was lovely to know the proprietor knew his suppliers personally. We had cod balls, mac and cheese, sweet potato fries, tempura vegetables and I over ordered and also went for the bao bun. Everything was lovely, the citrus soy dip was especially delicious with the veg. I personally could have managed without the bun, a little sweet and sticky for me but still good. All dishes were served with a smile and a joke and we were very much made to feel like valued guests. We love Appledore and with the Yard we now have another reason to keep coming back.

We had a Saturday dinner for 2 at the Yard in November, and booking a week or so in advance, the only times available were early (like 5:30pm) or later (8:15pm), so we went for the latter. On arrival it was busy but not crowded, and the service was friendly and attentive. The food was really good - delicious fresh crab, really nice tempura vegetables etc. All in, a great addition to Appledore.

We tried this restaurant for the first time and it was a great evening out. The food is tapas style mixed in with some traditional favourites. They had a great selection of drinks and the wines wines were all good quality and reasonably priced. The service was excellent, with the staff both friendly and attentive. We will certainly visit again!

We were delighted to be recommended The Yard, tucked away off the Main Street and a lucky find. The ambience was great up in the secret garden. The food was varied and delicious…we always enjoy tapas style. Prices very reasonable and staff really great - they had the patience to make sure everything was just right for our 12 year old daughter that has a number of allergies. Highly recommended. Thank you

Evening meal at The Yard at what used to the The Coach and Horses which had remained derelict for many years, so it was nice to see it given a new lease of life.
First impression was good, decor is quirky and slightly industrial, but they’ve preserved much of what remained of the old floors which is nice. Things are copper themed with cutlery, salt and pepper shakers, mirrors, sink and hooks in the toilet all made of copper, many of them hand made, some sourced locally and some from across the world.
Staff were friendly and attentive and it was nice to see the whole team working together, with the kitchen staff regularly coming out of the kitchen to help out.
Food was excellent and very tasty, portions are possibly a little on the small side but well presented. Pricing is a little on the high side and sadly likely to price locals out. Despite it being out of season there seemed to be very few locals in there.

Only recently opened, The Yard offers something different from the standard 'Fish & Chips/Burger/Pizza' options.......all of which are also available and excellent in Appledore. The interior has been thoughtfully designed, the staff are extremely welcoming and the food was delicious. Choosing a selection across the menu to share among us was perfect as we were able to sample so many of the choices.....all of which were fabulous.
We would definitely recommend The Yard and hope they have a long and successful future.

I rarely leave reviews on here but this place was too good not to review! We came here as a family of five after walking past and being drawn in by the aroma’s of the delicious dishes!
The menu is full of imagination and adventurous flavours. We all loved the tapas style sharing dishes, which meant we could order a selection between us. We ordered 3 each which may have been a little OTT (we got carried away looking at the menu) but no food went to waste! There are lots of vegetarian options as well as beautiful meat and fish dishes. When the food came, all dishes were beautifully presented, and each one had a delicious flavour. We especially loved that each dish contained fresh & local produce. The cocktails are amazing and the local beer selection was also a hit!
The staff were faultless, very attentive but not overbearing in the slightest. It was so lovely to be served by people who were knowledgeable and full of enthusiasm! We also have to mention that the lovely staff have chosen to donate a percentage of their tips to charity, which the management also match… I can safely say not many places do this!! If you’re a fan of beautiful tapas, great drinks & a fab atmosphere, then this gorgeous family run restaurant is the place to go :)

It was so lovely to see a new restaurant opened up in Appledore on our first visit back since September 2020. What a lovely warm welcome we received on our arrival, as we're not used to ordering tapas we asked lots of questions and was given sound advice by the staff. We thoroughly enjoyed all our dishes, they were very well presented and cooked to perfection. There was a good beer/wine/cocktail menu, I opted for a red wine, recommended by the staff, it was very, very nice. All in all, from the warm welcome, the tasteful modern decor, the amazing food, I can thoroughly recommend The Yard.

Yard is only recently opened but the food, the service and the drink selection excellent. Great tapas style small plates and sharing boards coupled with a relaxed but very professional service make this a lovely place to spend the evening.
It’s only open evenings at the moment but if it was open all day I could easily imagine going on for a light lunch and the day slipping away enjoying their hospitality into the late evening

We loved the atmosphere and the staff were lovely but none of us were impressed by the food and drink. We chose a red wine which none of us cold drink so we left it and ordered beer which was fine. The menu is very limited with only 3 or4 choices per section our party had a vegetarian and someone who was allergic to fish and so their choices were further restricted. We struggled to put together a range of dishes for each person and when the dishes came some were quite poor.For example the tempura vegetables were soggy and very oily and the chocolate mousse was really awful more like porridge and not even very chocolatey. Having read other reviews we know that most people are very enthusiastic about the food but whilst we love the idea of a menu comprising small plates for sharing we didn’t find enough choice and the quality of the food was variable. We really want you to succeed and you have so many things right but we will not be coming back until the range of dishes and the quality improve.

Well, what an absolutely fantastic evening, great food, great drink and fantastic staff and atmosphere. Would recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Appledore, such a personal experience talking to the entire team, all so helpful and clear to see that this restaurant has something very special. Can’t wait to return.

Having planned a last minute weekend away with very little research done we were resigned to having average to good meals in local pubs, how wrong we were!
The Yard was recommended the night before we visited in a local pub, we got lucky with a short notice cancellation - so grateful!
This place is just wonderful, we loved the decor, the small touches like the bronze colour scheme even down to the cutlery make it such a nice place to be.
We tried several cocktails and they were all delightful! The wine recommended by our waiter was divine!
All the staff are so helpful and knowledgeable, we ordered a couple of extra dishes because we were so hungry and I’m so glad we did! Wow! The food is just so good, being small plates you get to try so much more, it’s great for sharing.
Working in London I can honestly say The Yard would fit right in somewhere like Covent Garden or Soho - it’s a very cool place!
All round wonderful experience! I will definitely be visiting again.

There's not much I can add that other people haven't already said before me, amazing food, welcoming owner, great staff in a great looking restaurant. Coming from London where we are spoilt for great tapas this place certainly give those a run for their money. Every dish was amazing from the potted crab, to the duck lettuce wraps, to the meatballs, sooooo good, all of it. The owner is a natural host, interacting warmly with all his dining guests, never intrusive, just very personable and made you feel welcome and relaxed. Attention to detail has been paid on the decor, tableware, and accessories and it doesn't go unnoticed in this modern classy restaurant. A must for anyone visiting Appledore.

We had such a great experience eating here - the food and service were superb. Loads of delicious inventive vegan options as well as fish and meat. Fresh, locally sourced and tasty in a lovely warm atmosphere. The tomatoes on the salad were the freshest and tastiest I’ve had in a long time. Great selection of local drinks too and the most delicious coconut ice cream. I’ve seen a couple of comments complaining it’s too expensive for small plates. Some of the fish dishes were about £9 each but for exceptionally fresh, high quality food cooked by an expert I really don’t think this is a bad price. We mixed some of the more expensive dishes with some cheaper items and including drinks it was only £30 a head which i think is great value. Wish I lived locally as I would definitely be a regular customer.

We got a late reservation at the Yard after seeing high scores on trip advisor. They kindly got us a table. Service was friendly and the drinks were competitively priced. Unfortunately, we did feel quite let down with the food.
The menu was small and billed as small plates. To be fair to the chef, the food was quite tasty but the definitely overpriced. For £9 a dish, I would expect more than 3 ( nicely seasoned) meatballs or 1 pulled pork bao.
For dietary reasons, we could have the carb heavy food ( chips, Mac and cheese), so felt like we needed snack on the way home!
The restaurant is to be commended for trying something new but the portion sizes really need to be looked at!
