My family and I had lunch here during our holiday and we enjoyed it thoroughly.
The food was fresh, with good sized portions. The venue was really flexible - my children wanted variations of adult meals and our waiter was more than happy to accommodate their requests, make them children sized portions and adjust the price.
The precautions taken for COVID were great.
The view of the estuary is fabulous.
Additionally, I thought I had left my sunglasses there and called the pub the next day. They searched the venue whilst I waited and couldn't find them, took my contact details to check with staff not on that day and then called me back 2 days later to inform me they had not been found. I really felt they went the extra mile with this.

We are holidaying in Appledore and were recommended this pub. We couldn’t fault it - food was amazing and they’ve done a brilliant job to social distance tables whilst maintaining a great pub atmosphere. The service was brilliant, and added safety features (temperature check, sanitizer , table service, one in one out for the toilets etc.) made us feel very comfortable being there.

We stopped off on a rainy day in July for a quick dinner not long after they had reopened following lockdown. They were busy but had well separated tables and followed all the reasonable infection control procedures. Service and food were great. We had the mussels, bean burger, sticky toffee pudding and lemon posset - all excellent ad good value.

Good location, but service, welcome, and attitude very poor.
This is a poor quality pub trading on its location next to the sea making no real effort. It has so much potential but clearly lacks any desire to improve
We wanted a quick drink, which takes over 20 minutes to order and then longer to arrive
Menu choice was poor
Outside area was tacky, unloved, and not relaxing environment
Would not go again

This "review" was made by a "no show" customer who had made a reservation for 7 people (25% of our covid capacity) during EOTHO scheme & responded to our request for courtesy by responding with this malicious & fictitious review - if only he'd taken the(same) time to notify us of their change of plans! Other restaurants beware!

We had Sunday lunch here, whilst on holiday and as many others have said, it`s got to be one of the safest places going with regards to their Covid safety procedures. However this didn`t take anything away from eating or drinking there.
It was a glorious day, so we sat outside on the small terrace overlooking the estuary.
Despite the place being rammed and the fact that there only appeared to be only two staff waiting on, the service was very good, as was the food. There was a bit of a wait, which was only to be expected due to it being so busy.
We had a mixture of roasts and the beautifully cooked Chowder ( as a main rather than a starter )
The food was fantastic and very reasonably priced. I didn`t have a drink as I was driving, but there was a cracking selection of local real ales on the beer.
They`re making a really good job of it, despite how difficult it`s been over the past few months for small pubs like the Beaver.
Ten out of ten from me.

Friends and family were visiting from the Midlands and were impressed with the fact that we all had our temperature taken on arrival, comments about it was the first time they had had temperature taken made them feel safe, which is a great way to start a dining experience in these current times.
We were a party of six adults and a toddler, lucky enough to be seated in the Snug which made it even more enjoyable, as it is a private room. We can recommend the Appledore Mussels as a main, they were delicious, four out of the six adults confirmed this. The Catch of the Day, Pollock with polenta chips was a hit with another, having never tried Pollock before. The final main meal of the Fish Pie was also a success and the toddler ate most of the meal with Dad only pinching a few chips!
Service was excellent. We were given plenty of time to have three courses and enjoyed the sea view setting of the Snug.

Lovely Sunday lunch at The Beaver Inn. Husband had a pork dinner, with lovely crackling - I had the best nut roast ever. Plenty of lovely fresh vegetables, fabulous views across the water, prompt friendly service, and locals bursting into song! What more could you want. Highly recommended.

If you are looking for a business ready to welcome guests safely in Covid reopening then this is the one in Appledore that ticks the boxes for me. My family has done all lockdown procedures and are doing all we can to be safe for ourselves and our communities to move forward. The Beaver Inn owners have excelled in making the bar and restaurant feel safe for staff and customers. Clearly marked out spaces for tables, obvious sanitising practices, temperature checks and contact tracing information on arrival, social distancing easy for customers and staff very well trained... your cutlery, food etc brought on a tray for you to put on the table so minimal handling. ALSO THE FOOD WAS GREAT! We ordered the fish local specials on each visit and they were beautifully cooked. Well done Beaver Inn. Thank you for making your customers feel safe while providing a lovely meal and relaxing evening.

On our last evening of a short stay in North Devon we chose the Beaver Inn, Appledore for an evening meal. It was excellent in every way. The atmospheric setting overlooking the River Torridge estuary was perfect and the food was well prepared and very tasty. The staff should be complimented on their ability to make the occasion pleasant for everyone while still carefully observing the necessary distancing rules. Thoroughly recommended - a quality establishment from which others could learn.

From arrival with temperature checks, hand sanitizer and track and trace recording, friendly and hospitable greeting, personal escort to table which was sanitised before sitting is down, great table service and fantastic fresh local produce, this was by far the best experience we have had in Appledore. Well done to all the staff. Highly recommend the Beaver Inn.

Well below standard, blame it on COVID but this inn will no longer feature on our must visit list.
We all know and appreciate the problems that COVID has caused, and we all want to do our bit to get things back to normal, but slow service and a lack of manners will make this an uphill struggle for the Beaver Inn, and if you are not careful will deter customers from returning.
From placing our order to receipt, took one hour, for sandwiches, unbelievable, the staff appeared to lack knowledge of what was available our waiter returned several times to explain what was and what wasn’t available, in the end we had waited so long ( one hour) that we just accepted what was brought to the table.
Based on previous visits this was not the way service had been in the past.

Firstly let me please apologise for your poor experience and I do understand that it is easy to pass the buck onto Covid but in regards to staff training, the only staff who returned from furlough were experienced core staff members... Opening up outside in April was a risk for us , we were back at work after 4 months off, on a brand new menu with a brand new ordering system ... We had to make sure we were wary of stock levels because a few days rain could mean having to dispose of fresh produce, similarly our staff levels were difficult to control for the same reason (especially as the 3+ forecast reports we were constantly checking all seemed to say different or be totally inaccurate!)
Thankfully that most difficult period has ended and we are now getting back to some kind of normality we are getting back into the swing and as you may have seen received some lovely reviews since... I am a little disappointed that this situation wasn't brought to our attention until this negative review but hope that you might return to give us another chance in the near future.

5 of us and 2 dogs ate at The Beaver Inn. Food definitely home cooked and delicious. My daughter asked if the Piri Piri chicken was spicy and the lady said they could do it any way she wanted. Incredibly friendly & helpful staff, even when my mum was choking the Barman rushed over a glass of water, without being asked. Other customers friendly, lovely relaxed evening . Would definitely return and highly recommend

Stopped here for lunch on a lovely sunny day - very well organised, took temp on entry & made sure table was sanitised before we sat down. Fabulous views over the estuary. Very good table service for both drinks & food, which was excellent value & quality.

So often I find that pubs in places which are very touristy can be quite complacent; they know they’ll have different people in next week. But not here. At the Beaver Inn you are treated like a local, literally every single member of staff was super friendly, always so accommodating and bend over backwards for you. A great setting right on the waters edge, this pub also serves fantastic food. I rarely eat ribs out because I smoke my own and that makes me unreasonably critical, but I really fancied ribs and gave them a whirl and they were awesome! In fact every meal we were served here was first class, big portions and great quality. Well done Beaver team, you do a great job!

Visited the Beaver Inn often, during our weeks stay in Appledore. Organisation for seating and ordering food and drink during this challenging time, was made so simple and straightforward (unlike our experience in the Seagate where one visit was enough). All staff are just so friendly and helpful. Look forward to a few more beers and food when we return in November.
