This is my favourite local eating place. Frank does everything pretty well on his own...cooking beautiful French food and serving choices of wine and other drinks. Lovely friendly atmosphere and well loved by many of the local folk.

We reserved the whole restaurant for our family for supper following our wedding rehearsal. We couldn't have asked for a better start to our celebrations. Franck and Sue were wonderful hosts and made all the arrangements flow smoothly. The food was superb, all tastes were catered for and we had a really lovely evening and at a very good price... More

This is a lovely, typically French restaurant with an astonishingly wide menu. Our food was beautifully prepared and the service was friendly and prompt. The House wine is excellent!

My 50th birthday, table for 10, 7.30pm on a Saturday night and every single one of us was delighted with the delicious food we were served. Yes there was a wait, but as Frank, the chef and owner, was cooking for us, plus at least one other table of 8 people and one of 4, all at the same time,... More

Went back to ‘Franks’ again with 2 very close friends and it easily matched our high expectations. In fact from its early days the food is easily as good but the service and the place it self have improved. Now less of a shabby bistro and more shabby chic. The service for us was perfect, as it was neither rushed... More

This little bistro has great food and wonderful European Ambiance. Frank and his lovely partner Sue work very well together and run it like a well oiled machine. The food speaks for itself and is excellent quality for a small town like this. May be a little too noisy and busy for very young infants.

Lovely day we sat outside- could have been abroad... Sun blazing ate mussels to start with great bread, followed by steak and veg /or vegetables perfectly cooked washed down with delicious cold rose. Can't believe frank runs the whole show with no help.. Will be back very soon - a hidden gem!

We visited this small bistro/restaurant for the first time last Friday evening - the welcome was warm and the atmosphere relaxed and unpretentious. We had two mains, served with seasonal veg, a bottle of house red, one coffee and two liqueurs. The food was excellent and the wine more than acceptable. The bill came to £51 (ex service). Being a... Really lovely cosy family run restaurant which offered typical French style dishes. We all had fish which was all decent sized portions and cooked really well. Worth a visit if you want something more relaxed and homely !

Easy to find in the picturesque village of Rottingdean you will find the French inspired restaurant, Bistro Gourmand. French chef Frank Thomeret tell us about his creation.

"It's very much a bistro thing, but its original, traditional bistro food, things you might not find somewhere else. My influences are very Mediterranean, so I make dishes such as the bouillabaisse, its a fish stew with garlic and wine flambe with prawns.

My menu has wonderful variety, as well as steaks, I have coq au vin, veal chops and lamb cassoulet. The portions are generous and the price very reasonable. I call it Provencal cuisine". So if you fancy some delicious home cooked food with a difference, then this is the place for you.
