Lovely pub with a lovely atmosphere and a warm coal fire. The staff were very chatty and friendly which really made for a good experience. The kitchen was closed but the staff provided us with loads of good local recommendations. The decor in the pub...is brilliant with great selection of beers. Would highly recommend!More

Turned up with no booking, found us a seat no problem. Thats as good as it got. Starter was mediocre - I had the mushrooms my husband had the kofta. Then came the mains. I had the salmon which was dry and tastless. I asked...for mash potato instead of baby potatoes which when they werebrought out I had both. I raised this with the server who ignored me and moved onto another table. The tastiest thing on the plate was the vine tomatoes. My husbands meal of house burger was bland. When it came to paying I again raised that i ordered mash instead of baby potatoes to which the server responded with oh yes my fault... Yep that was it. Server was awkward and more interested in giving out free icecream to a table of girls. Will not return. 70 quid later and apart from the company evening was ruined.More

Decent meals at the Badger chosen from a well balanced menu with something for everybody. Calamari and lamb koftas to start both very good; baked salmon main was well cooked, personally wouldn’t put the salmon on top of whole baby new potatoes but after deconstructing...the stack it all tasted good. Nice atmosphere, would happily go again.More

Yesterday we visited The Badger for the first time for a Sunday roast, while my overall review is good there is 2 negative points, which are my opinions/preferences. We were greeted by a lovely lady who help and attended to us during our whole visit,...she couldn’t have been more lovely. I ordered the Lamb. The meal arrived it was well presented with plenty on the plate, however my lamb was very pink, I don’t eat pink meat & it instantly put me off, now I understand some people like this and that the chef has cooked it to be as he thinks it should be cooked & served. I just wished I’d been asked/told in advance!? I swapped meats with my husband who had the beef which was well cooked & delicious. Also to point out he enjoyed the lamb. The next observation I’ll make is again “to me” a little strange, on my plate there was chunky pieces of roasted peppers, courgette & onions, I like these vegetables & they were tasty but it completely baffled me as to why they were there on my traditional Sunday roast? Again I feel it’s been the chef’s preference…Gravy & Yorkshire puddings were so tasty, desert was amazing. The Badger has a nice vibe, I’d definitely return but not for a Sunday Roast.More

I first came here for drinks about 10 years ago but it's not really local for me as I live over in Gateshead. However, my partner who's in the Forces was gifted some leisurevouchers which can be used at Vintage Inns, The Badger being part...of that chain! As my partner is going away for a few months we thought we'd take the opportunity to use them. We came for dinner early on at 5.30 and were welcomed and taken to our table straightaway. We were served by Anne who we later found on was in charge that night. Although it wasn't that busy there was still other customers to attend to but Anne was super friendly and courteous. We found that one item on the menu was not on and she was very apologetic but it was all fine. Food was lovely, beer great too and O/H loved the Chieftain! The main issue was when we came to pay - there was some confusion over leisure vouchers being accepted so Anne rang her boss and was guided through the process. At no point did she get frustrated or flustered... she just got on with it and eventually it went through. We would never have wanted to cause such an issue but she told us she needed to learn as she's never done it before... honestly, we loved the experience and will most definitely be back if there are staff on duty with the lovely attitude and pleasant manner of Anne! Thank you! Naomi and JamesMore

When we rang to book (very necessary) we were told that they were fully booked that evening but after we said we could come early we got a table for 11 at 6pm. Phew! We were brilliantly served by Oscar, a fine young man with...a great sense of humour. It was a first visit for 5 of our party and they and we will all be going back when we are next in Newcastle.More
