We had lunch here over the weekend and it was a great spot opposite a little park for our two dogs to run around. We sat outdoors, the service was a little bit slow but they were fairly busy. The food and coffees were great!...Definitely worth a spot if you're passing through and right across the road from the beach so good for takeaway.More

My review is deliberately about the mini-mart with only passing reference to the cafe as our service experience was great at the store; poor at the cafe. Views are nice, but you get plenty of time to admire them with slow and perfunctory cafe service....On the other hand the range of goods, particularly fresh fruit, at the mini-mart is more extensive than I would have imagined and a treasure-trove for stocking up on holiday essentials and not so essentials! The service staff member in the store was helpful and cheerful on a gloomy day, but parking is limited so we got rather wet on the dash to get inside.More

I went to this charming cafe this morning in the hope of getting a great cafe brunch. Boy was I wrong. I went in to look at the menu and after just a few seconds, the woman at the counter asked if I was looking...for something in particular. I would have liked an extra minute to read the menu but thought to myself, wow, she really wants to help. I said that I was looking at the vegan options, to which she replied, we don't really have anything that is vegan - we do have a wrap. The wrap was some tempeh roll (and I am not a fan of tempeh - not a lot of vegans are). I said to her I was looking for something a bit more simple. I confirmed the 'V' on menu item was for vegetarian and there was only one vegan item on the entire menu, some muesli. She said they had a special (that for some reason was not yet on the specials board) and that it was a vegetable toastie. She could not remember what was in it so she went to get the cook/chef. I was happy to be getting good service and it felt like she wanted to help me. The chef came out and told me what was in the toastie, but as I had a bit of a sensitive tummy, it was a little rich for me - though it sounded great and I would have jumped on it if I could! I had noticed there were multiple avo on toast options that were not vegan (they had eggs and goats cheese, etc). I asked if he could prepare just some smashed avo on sourdough with some salt & pepper and maybe some herds (which was on the non vegan options). He was more than happy to oblige. This is where the problem begins. The lady at the counter rang up my order and exclaimed it would be $21 - woah! I exclaimed, questioning the cost. She responded saying, sorry, I thought you wanted the smashed avo on toast and pointed to the specials board - which was a version that had poached eggs and a bunch of other stuff. I said to her, I am ordering off menu like you suggested (and she was there to hear the conversation with the chef as she stood right next to him). I asked why I was being charged the same cost when most of the ingredients were being omitted. She said I am sorry, I don't know what you want. I said to her that even the normal avo on toast, which has Meredith goats cheese is only $17 - she rings it up again, $17.50 this time - again I questioned her. I asked why I was having less ingredients and being charged more! Again confused, she said, I don't know what you want, I said I was having smashed avo on toast, she said, oh the one on the menu is just avo, not smashed (like that should cost more!). I again reminded her I was ordering smashed avo on toast which is not on the menu. She again said - I don't know what you want. I had had enough and told her not to worry - cancel the order. I thought she would have offered to get help from the chef who DID know what I wanted and probably could have sorted this out with no trouble, but nope, she just let me walk right out the door. Vegans should not be charged more simply for being vegan. We are ethical people and live a sustainable lifestyle. We are doing good for the planet and do not deserve to be charged more for creating a better world. We do not deserve to be taxed for taking ingredients off some toast and calling it vegan! If you would not do this to someone with a food allergy, why do it to vegans. I frequented this place on my last visit (I was not vegan then) and I loved it - but my how the mighty have fallen!More

Nestled between the Otways and the ocean, this could not be a better location for a meal. There is also a playground next to it, if you have children. We found the staff to be friendly and helpful. Our meals were excellent: good flavour, well...cooked, and well-sized portions. If I were to have any negative it was that the coffee was only average. It was fine, but nothing special.More

This place has so much potential but because they have the cafe monopoly in the area all customer service goes out the window. We just want some consistency for gods sake, and an entire overhaul of their ordering system. Some days you wait forever and...there are plenty of staff, others it isn’t busy at all and you wait even longer! It just doesn’t make sense. You can line up out the door to order. Or sometimes you can sit down and get service but then on other days they can just randomly choose not to serve you on that day. Work it out guys. It should be this hard. We’ve been coming for years and you would think by now they would want to make their business operate efficiently. Guess not.More

We go to the general store a few times during our 2 weeks camping each year, and this year was a marked improvement on the last few, maybe influenced by new ownership. The Apollo Bay food works took over in December and have made some...changes, especially to the store which is more mini-mart now, and to the cafe menu and pricing. Gone are the overly fussy/fancy fair, and in with the burgers and some such! Pricing seems much more reasonable too! All in all, very good...especially the chicken burger!!More

Excellent breakfast great coffee well worth a stop everything you need. Some nice beer on tap too. Can get very busy and the staff could show a little more positive vibes they can come across grumpy.

Popped in for morning tea. Great coffee and we shared a sourdough ham, cheese and tomato toastie ($13). It was huge and we shared it. The coffee was excellent. There was a tempting cabinet of cakes and pastries on offer. We ordered as a take...away because all the tables were full and they were strictly adhering to Covid social distancing. But we changed to dine in when a table became vacant. The waiter quickly picked up on this and changed our order to dine in. He was a very friendly and efficient young man. The location is stunning - across the road from the beach. We will be back!More

Called in for coffee and cakes after a recommendation. Unless you’re a local or know the staff don’t expect to get your coffee in a hurry, many that came in & ordered after us got their order and left well before us. Cakes were yummy...but abit pricey. We won’t be stopping again.More

We stopped here for a coffee break on our road trip, there's not much in Wye river but this place is amazing I was blown away by the amount of people eating drinking and shopping in this store/cafe and what was on offer, open from...breakfast to dinner food looked great, staff super friendly, and coffee made to perfection, if your down this way definitely make this a stop.More

We were going to dine at the pub, but decided to give this a go. So glad we did. Nice funky place to dine, great location, and the staff were friendly and helpful I always struggle a bit to find something to eat that does...not include fried foods, or bread How lucky was I to eat their Chicken Burrito, ( without the wrap ) beautifully presented in a large bowl, with the tastes of ingredients. My partner devoured his “Toastie”. Plenty of filling, and piping hot when presented. There were a couple of specials for the day as well The General Store section, next to the cafe was great for a wander, to check out local produce. We will be back..... no pub , only this place to dine!More

This cafe and store has over the years accumulated a reputation for good, fresh, and imaginative food. It also is in a pretty location on the Great Ocean Road, and has become a destination in itself for locals, tradies and tourists. On-line the menu looks...more exciting than it in fact is, and the day I called in there were no specials available, and just the ordinary menu, which whilst adequate, was not as interesting as I had hoped. Staff were pleasant and service prompt.More
