Tom & Ania are a breath of fresh air to the Atenas restaurant scene. Excellent quality food that is different & delicious as well as some of our traditional favorites. We always enjoy our meals there

I enjoyed lunch with friends on a few occasions, and have not been disappointed. Portions are generous, prepared as you ask, and prices are reasonable, always with a smile. The varied menu is supplemented with daily specials, and there's always delicious freshly baked cakes, pies, and other sweet delights available. The atmosphere is casual and friendly, and it's a good... More

We ate here twice. The menu was varied with many brunch and lunch choices, all excellently prepared, modestly priced and served with a smile and warmth. Adding sauteed onions to the grilled cheese sandwich was inspired. The desserts are fabulous. Do try "Death by Chocolate". The lending library is very useful in a town where it is difficult to find... More

Airy place; which is nice. There's books along the walls for people to sign out. Easy to order in English is a plus. Great hangout for Gringos 🙂. Food is always good. My wife and I have eaten here multiple times.

The sweets in Costa Rica are not very well received by most Gringos. They can really make you never want a doughnut again. But Kay 's is not that way. Enjoy.

Four friends and my husband and I had a wonderful breakfast here this morning. The owner was friendly and charming. The food was delicious and the portions large and the staff happily split them for us. The prices were better than reasonable. The staff sang happy birthday to the birthday boy among us. We'll definitely return and It also includes... More

We ate breakfast there twice. The owners were very friendly and welcomed us personally. The Tico breakfast was very good, but the chocolate cake we had was outstanding. There is also a lending library we used extensively.

My husband and I were lucky enough to discover Sunday brunch on our first full day in Atenas. The brunch buffet hit the spot, and everyone in the cafe (staff, owners, and customers alike) were welcoming and friendly. Thanks for a kind welcome and a full belly during our first Costa Rican adventure!

Description
Kay's Gringo Postres roughly translated means Kay's NorthAmerican Sweets. Kay and her husband, Tom, from South Dakota, started out as a tiny pastry and coffee shop and grew into the only place in Atenas and for miles around that serves real American soul food - heavenly cheeseburgers and crispy fries, several types of grilled cheese sandwiches, BLT's, amazing breakfasts as well as an all you can eat Sunday Brunch buffet. The cakes, cookies and pie are homemade and defy description. It's a gathering place for locals as well as expatriates, They also maintain a lending library with English, German, French and Spanish books.
