The tasting menu with wine pairing was incredible. The best meal we have ever had. The Douro Valley is one of the best kept secrets for fantastic wine and food. We will be back!!!

We had a set meal here as part of our "Douro Exclusive" tour (see separate review), but nevertheless every course was excellent (and we were told we could substitute dishes if we were not happy with the selection). In addition the setting was absolutely wonderful as we sat on the deck overlooking the Douro. The menu consisted of fish and... More

This restaurant is beautifully situated on the bank of the Douro river. We visited on a sunny day and it was divine. Wait staff were great and the food was excellent, with small amuse bouches as well as the choices you make from the menu. Great wine choices too. Perfect for a lovely relaxed lunch.

This is a high-end restaurant serving modern versions of classic regional dishes. The menu, wine selection and overall atmosphere is more what you would expect in a major tourist destination. As it is located right on the river bank, it has fantastic views. If you are travelling up the Douro, this restaurant is worth a stop in Armamar. Actually, if... More

The short version of this review is "if you love interesting but accessible food presented beautifully by perfectly choreographed waitstaff in a lovely setting, make DOC the restaurant you visit in the Douro valley." We split a number of dishes so the portions in the pictures are half portions, except for the dessert. Although a dish of avocado, beet, and... More

Someone once told me "never eat in an expensive restaurant in Portugal" the typical kitchen is so good and so reasonable ! However the setting was amazing although can be chilly outside which is where you need to sit. The views are outstanding ! The food was good and the staff were kind . However they were arguing a bit... More

It is rare that you got excellent in everything especially for a restaurant that got so many aspects to be reviewed on but to me, the experience of having lunch in this restaurant gives it all excellent remarks. First the location next to river was amazing. The outdoor tables even located over the river. The view was superb! Second is... More

In front of Douro River this place offers a superb dining experience but at its cost. For me it paid. Original creations by the chef Rui Paula joined by Douro superb wines transformed the visit in a pleasant surprise. Service also outstanding.

We came here for a 3-course lunch (with wine pairings). Immediately we were blown away by the view: this restaurant is gently nestled alongside the Douro river, surrounded by the rising mountains, vineyards, and farms. The food was elegant and beautifully plated. Our first course was a crab raviolo; our second course was a duck confit with a mushroom risotto;... More

Description
Douro is river, villages and suspended vineyards on imposing slopes. It's wine with designation of origin but also D.O.C, Taste of Certified Origins.

It was based on this analogy that, in 2007, the DOC restaurant was born. Situated in Folgosa, Armamar, on the road between Regua and Pinhao, in what is one of the most beautiful scenic routes in the country, the restaurant occupies a building of contemporary lines with a picket based that extends along an elegant wooden deck overlooking the river.

Designed by the architect Michael Scott, the structure also includes a river dock with capacity for 15 boats, a wine cellar and a car park.
It's a place of enormous beauty, blending the grandeur of the vineyard covered mountains and the serenity of the Douro river and the riverside villages, only awakened by the regular passage of the train. DOC serves as a window on this breathtaking scenery, making every meal a unique and special moment.

Since it opened, the restaurant has been the target of a growing recognition of press and public. David Lopes Ramos, the 'Publico' renowned food critic, thus referring to DOC, in an article published in the 'Fugas' supplement: "DOC is a unique case, because, alone, made the Douro kitchen Douro sophisticated and creative in a level previously unknown. This in Douro, our most prestigious wine region. "
