We stayed for the two nights In Maes Frio and on the night we arrived found a few restaurants in town. The Tasca looked an unobtrusive bar that we nearly passed by, Once inside the tiny bar we were directed upstairs to the small restaurant, where we were made welcome and shown a table. The wonderful fresh food, I had the wonderful... We found this through TripAdvisor and it was simply amazing. The food, the atmosphere, the warmth. We started with a vegetable soup that was divinal! The wine (vinho da casa - maduro / tinto) is formidable and really affordable. For the main course we had roasted pork with "batata a murro" and chestnuts: simple, straightforward and delicious! We highly recommend... More

The place is nice but the reviews that praise this place so much makes me think portugal has very bad food in general. I would say this place is ok if you're on a budget, I've been at a lot of restaurants around the world and used to good food and service so my standards might be slightly higher the... More

Fortunately we happened to find the other reviews as we calculated a place to have lunch on our drive around the area and once we found it - in the town center near the square - we really enjoyed the food, the place and the humorous banter of the owner. Food was terrific - we had roasted pork pieces and... More

This meal was, without doubt, the best we have had so far in Portugal. Not only was the welcome warm and friendly, the service was helpful without being intrusive and the food sublime! We had a steak, the dourade and the lamb cutlets - all three were fantastic - so good that we will be making the 3 hour round... More

Lovely service, and a really familiar and traditional feel. it's a small restaurant and quite noisy, but worth it.

This is a real local restaurant, with great food and a wonderful host in Andre and his sister Alice. It’s one of those places where everyone chats with each other across the room creating such a wonderful atmosphere. The food is cooked with perfection, not posh like some, just plain great cooking. The portions are large so go hungry. Andre... More
