We keep going back to the Crown because whatever sort of meal we have the food and service is always superb. In recent months we have had meals that were just starters (chowder, ham hock terrine, duck 3 ways, cannelloni), full special meals (sole in bouillabaisse sauce), "pub meals" and the world's best pork sandwiches. Always great service (even when... More

We headed through the fog and back lanes to visit the Crown which we thought would be a good lunch stop We were very surprised how busy it was and felt a little underdressed in our riding gear but to no avail we were greeted and found a table. We just went for the soup and roast pork sandwiches with... More

Almost everything was perfect. Beautiful inn. Warm, welcoming, comfortable. Ham hock terrine and fish cakes to start. Spot on. Venison hotpot (x2) with red cabbage. Exceptional. The one fault...brussels sprouts rock hard, still some stalk on ("they need more than just being shown some hot water", says mother (92) having been cooked along with the mange tout and green beans... It was our second visit to this restaurant and after a lovely experience the first time we were looking forward to our meal at The Crown. Unfortunately this was not to be, the quality of food to all four diners at our table was poor, I had an "extra (living) ingredient" in my first course, my main course was nearly... More

We arrived too early for our booked overnight stay, if fact right in the middle of busy Sunday lunch service Not that this fazed Lee, the manager, who whisked our luggage from car to room in A flash. The rooms are quirky, each with its own style, layout and name. We had a spacious room at far right end, gun room... More

My wife took me here as a surprise for my 30th birthday, it didn't disappoint. We took our five month old baby with us and as soon as I walked through the door I knew I was in for a treat. The wood fire was blazing and the smell of smoke really created a homely atmosphere. We sat down at... More

We have been here several times and decided with our large family to meet here for a pre Xmas lunch. It was the best meal all 10 of us have had for a long time. The food is just very special as are the staff very attentive without being obvious. We all ate different meals off the Xmas menu which... More

We have eaten at The Crown in Roecliffe on previous occasions, indeed our daughter got married there last year and we had a wonderful day. On this occasion however, we went for Sunday lunch, which fell short of our expectations. The pub was extremely busy so we had to wait for our table to be turned round, which wasn't a... More

Often stop here when travelling south for lunch. Always welcoming and busy but plenty of tables in dining room if full in bar. Wonderful sandwiches with small cup of soup and a few chips. Best light lunch I ever have out washed down with a pint. The mannikins outside are always dressed appropriately for the season and are excellent photographic... More

This was our second stay as a family, my husband has also stayed here in the past on business. We were wondering where to go for half term, and I just thought about our stay 2 yrs ago, so I just said I'd like to go back to the Crown. When we had stayed before it was just so welcoming,... More
