Our lunch at this traditional family run Cretan tavern was one of the highlights of our 2 weeks in Crete. We stepped into Maria's kitchen to select our lunch from the many pots and pans, all the food looked delicious so it was hard to choose. My husband and I shared the meatballs in tomato sauce with risoni, fava with... More

We stopped here on our way to different gorges for lunch. The terrasse is quiet and nice with a view on the mountain. When we say we would like to eat they take us to the kitchen where we choose from the pans what we'll eat (traditional way but les and less seen). We receive big plates of delicious food,... More

Every year that we have a dinner in this place we make the usual consideration that probably this is on of the Best taverna in Crete. The way to prepare the dishes sound like a poetry. Everything is light, very well prepared and cooked. The prime material are excellent and every day the number of the day dishes is really... More

We have stopped by for lunch on our way to Plakias. There was a bunch of locals having their lunch. Instead of presenting a menu the lady (probably the owner) took us to the kitchen showing us all the food they have prepared letting us choose what we wanted. It was around twenty different dishes. The food was perfect and... More

Iliomanolis is definetly on the "to do" list when you are in this area of the island. It waits for you at the entrance of the Kourtaliotiko canyon and its kitchen is way different from all the tourist-trap restaurants u could find on the seaside. U can try a real cretan kitchen of the hinterland. There is no menu :... More

This is the best place to taste the Cretan cuisine. The family has been running this taverna for over 20 years and have a long tradition in hospitality. The food is delicious , the location is very quiet and calming, the facilities are extremely clean and the family all kind and charming. Recommended 100%

Came across this gem of a taverna as a coincidence for lunch and it was absolutely perfect. No menu but instead we were presented with all the freshly made food in the kitchen. We wanted to choose all but ended up choosing 5 different things and it was delicious. Freshly made cheese and fresh cage tables from the family garden.... More

Simple and tasty, cretan cuisine in its most traditional form. Recipes handed over from generation to generation using fresh local ingredients, most of them produced by the owners. The dishes change according to season. Instead of a menu, the owner invites the customers to take a look at the available dishes so you can judge yourself what looks best! Prices... More

I totally recommend this restaurant. We went with my wife and our 2 children and it was the best food we had during our stay in Crete.

Although we'd been to surrounding villages many times over the years, it really takes having a car to enable one to get to this Taverna. Take the Kotsifou Canyon from Plakias for a scenic ride up to this cluster of houses & the place you want is just to the right of the cross-road upon entering Kanevos. We never saw... More
