About
Beautiful Grade 2 listed pub with a small kitchen. Under New management since 3 June 2019. Steven and Amanda (Owners) are fully involved in the day to day running of the business and with their small team offer a friendly and informal service. We are very dog friendly and have a room called 'The Dog House' where dogs can bring their owners along for lunch or dinner. PLEASE NOTE - all of our food is homecooked in our small kitchen so our menu is limited. We do cater for vegetarians and food intolerances but need at least 24 hours pre warning as dishes will be cooked especially to suit guest requirements.

We visited this pub twice during our trip to Malton. On both occasions the service was very friendly and attentive. Agree with other reviews regarding the really nice quality food with a South African vibe. Really good well kept local ales and good selection of...wine. We stayed in Malton and it was a reasonably easy and safe walk down to old Malton, especially if it is a nice day.More

Great food, I had some kebabs for main and they were very very tasty, all food very good, felt more special than standard pub grub. There were plenty options with a South African theme as well as other options. Well priced. Friendly and welcoming to...non locals.More

Wonderful experience eating here. An absolute gem that so typifies the best of a British pub! Great menu including traditional and South African dishes. Beautiful local ale and tremendously friendly staff. Highly recommend a visit

Staff couldn’t have been kinder when our 4 year old grandson vomited as we arrived through their door. While he was taken home, they cleared up quickly and ensured that our remaining 8 family members (4 youngsters) were given excellent attention and entertained with great...humour. The landlord gave us lots of help in deciding which South African dishes we might enjoy and the entire family ate and thoroughly enjoyed all their choices. We wished we our holiday had been longer as we certainly would have returned the following day. Many thanks to everyone there. We will happily recommend this venue. A lovely experience (despite our unexpectedly dramatic arrival)More

Booked here for 6 of us here for food at 13.00. We were not aware that it was Sunday Lunch only and no other food options were available. The owner/ chef came to see us, very apologetic, said he was only serving Sunday Lunch but...would be agree to roast beef sandwiches. One of our party was gluten free and they even supplied a GF roast beef sandwich. The sandwiches were delicious. Exceptional customer service, Thankyou.More

My friend and I visited this pub for the first time yesterday. The service was first class; the food was really tasty (and there was a great choice with some South African inspired dishes) and so reasonably priced. No one rushed us at all. A...really lovely experience. Thanks!More

After extensive research on what there is on offer in Malton, I came across this place on here. Menu looked lovely plus the fact that there are some South African dishes on the menu swung it for me. It's a mile from Malton, in Old...Malton and well worth the taxi ride there. Taxis were not easy to come by but if you book a cab back to Malton (where we stayed) as soon as you get to sit down, you should be fine. We were placed in a cosy corner and had a starter of Sosaties to share. Very enjoyable. Mains were Bobotie for me which was fab and my husband had the Royal Oak Burger, which he devoured and was very happy with. We even had dessert which is unusual for us. Next to us were a couple from South Africa, and we got chatting. Both the Malva pudding and the Brownie were gorgeous. The wine slipped down a treat. The SA Shiraz was very silky and smooth. In short: We loved the whole experience and are planning to come back. Many thanks to chefs and staff. Do book though to avoid disappointment as the place was pretty busy.More
