They serve excellent urn-baked chicken. Prices aren’t cheap but in the mountains, you don’t have much of an option.

After eating noodles for lunch daily during a private tour of Taiwan, my spouse and I finally asked our guide to take us to a place that served either chicken or fish. We eagerly jumped at the opportunity when he suggested this restaurant. Before entering,...we saw the chicken being roasted outside in huge metal pots. The aroma was intoxicating, and we could hardly wait to order and eat. We chose half a chicken for 300 NT along with a plate of birds nest ferns for 200 NT. The ferns were steeped in a combination of an oily spice sauce with capers, garlic and tiny fish. The flavor was amazing! When the chicken was served us, our guide, donned two pairs of gloves, and then proceeded to pull it apart rather than cutting it up. He explained that this was the traditional method for removing the meat from the bones. What a new and fun custom to experience! The chicken meat was tender and moist, yet the skin was perfectly crisp. Wow! Chicken and ferns in a beautiful setting. Who could ask for more?More

The urn-baked chicken was juicy and delicious. The skin was crispy. The chicken was very hot and yet the meat remained tender. Customers were provided gloves to tear up the chicken. This was quite a different experience from the traditional Chinese and Western restaurants where...the meat was already cut into pieces. Other than the chicken, the vegetables were fresh and the tofu was tasty. The cafe had a very nice view of the mountain. The cafe also had live fish, but we were full and did not try it.More

Our friend, a local resident in Taichung promised us the best smoked chicken, made in huge traditional urns, in a beautiful mountain setting of the Qing jing mountains. The road is very windy to get to the top, and it was raining, so we didn't...see anything related to the mountain views, lol. Inako is a traditional wooden building. The giant ceramic smokers are by the entrance. Their speciality is the urn baked chicken served whole, and you are given gloves to pull it apart. Additionally, we ordered soup and stir fry vegetables. dishes are delicious too. They are generous with vegetables & soup. Service is perfunctory, almost unfriendly. The food was good!More

Pple recommended this place for it's chicken, maybe because I ate a better one before this, so this is considered not very good. Whole chicken came on its own, you have to pull apart the chicken yourself. Quite barbaric to me. Skin is not crispy,...a little too salty, clam soup is bland, veggie is ok nothing fantastic.More

Went twice for early bird dinner during weekend Chicken (whole chicken) and stir fried vegetables were good Since the chicken was good, we went for the 2nd night Disappointed in the following : Clam soup tasted like water Trout fish tasted so so Again trout...fish soup tasted like water Attitude of the parking lot staff was unacceptable- rude and yelled to us - insisted us to keep our keys of our rented motorcycle in the motorcycle (who would do it in a foreign small town!) Given the limited choices of cuisine in the area, will still recommend the restaurant.More

A great alternative to the more popular urn chicken restaurant at CingJing. Food is reasonably priced and also popular with the locals.

Restaurant built with wood with seats overlooking the scenic mountains, along the route up to Cing Jing. Good to arrange for dinner before dark do that can have some view of the scenery. Restaurant provide free shuttle ride to and from from minsu. Food is average despite of widely publicized roasted chicken. Not a 'wow' type of dinner

We were told this is one of the better roast chicken places in town and the chicken was just OK to us. The steam fish was also just OK. This place is quite touristy and the service was only so so. The price is reasonble...considering how touristy it is. Also this restaurant offers pick up and drop off from the hotel. In short, I am not sure if i can recommend this place.More

Good thing about this place is that they offer you a pick up and sending back service to your accommodation. Urn chicken is decent, i though 七里香 was much better. Vongole soup was nice, beancurd is good and cabbage is very fresh too. The cabbage...in any Cingjing restaurants (including your accommodation breakfast) are all very fresh and delicious. Price wise is decently priced and worth a visit if you have not tried any urn chicken yet.More

Recommended by friends to try the roast chicken here. They are right! Super duper delicious! Highly recommended. View behind the restaurant is very nice as well. Just that staffs are not exactly that friendly. You will have to approach the counter each time if you...need something.More

This restaurant came highly recommended by both our driver and accommodation's reception staff for its famous urn-baked chicken, a Nantou county specialty. It was absolutely delicious, with crisp skin and juicy, tender, and smoky flesh. They provided free to-and-fro shuttle bus transportation as well --...just check with your accommodation and they should be able to assist with the arrangements.More

First dinner in CingJing. Roasted chicken is the main dish here but you can expect the other standard local fare which are really delicious! We came at night when it was pretty cold and there's not much of a view but I think the scenery...will be great for lunchMore
