Among food prices in Taiwan, it's probably pretty expensive but average cost per pax is only around $10 USD for person for a cup of coffee and pastry. Afterall, it's located in trendy Ximending. The star here is charcoal coffee. The shop takes pride in its coffee roast and it's easy to taste why. My father, a hardcore expresso drinker, tried ice-drip coffee for the first time upon my urging. It was a very hot day in Taipei. the ice-drip coffee was brought out with pride. The ice-cubes are made of the coffee's expresso so that the customer can savor the full-bodied ice-drip coffee without having its taste diluted. The sugar syrup is homemade and the cream is fresh. Together with the classy presentation, the order of ice-drip coffee was served like a work of art. I was most impressed by the service. When we wanted to select cake as one of the pastry choices, the waitress brought out a miniature models of all the cakes they have in house that day. Now that's not a sight you see at a cafe everyday. The staff were very attentive to us without being overwhelming. Water was filled without being asked and plates were cleared promptly without interrupting conversation. Even though the cafe was pretty packed for tea-break time on a weekday, no one had to raise their hands through the 2 hrs we were in the cafe. The wait staff were that attentive and unobtrusive. Now that's good service indeed. No doubt, it was costly for Taipei food prices. But I felt that it's worth it. And if I had another lazy afternoon in Taipei, I would choose to spend it there.

Xindian / Wulai District
The Bitan Scenic Area with its beautiful mountains and rivers was one of the eight sceneries of Taiwan earlier on and was reputed as the “little red cliff” due to its steep cliffs on the west bank. If you enjoy wandering through this area by bike, there are well established surrounding riverside cycling paths. One may also boat on Bitan in paddle boats which are also quite pleasant. If you are tired and would like to take some rest, why not set foot in feature restaurants on the east bank and comfort your soul with great food and beautiful scenery with an air of romance. The neighboring Wulai is one of the few districts in Northern Taiwan with indigenous culture. You can visit the Atayal Museum for the history and culture of indigenous people, or go for an in-depth indigenous tribal life experience and enjoy unique totems and architecture. The area is famous for its hot springs and cherry blossoms. Visit in spring to bask in the color of cherry blossoms, and experience hot springs in winter to warm the body and heart. Don’t miss the old street if you enjoy shopping and buying. If you want to stand closer to nature, the different appearance of Wulai Waterfall from time to time from trickling to overwhelming will capture your heart.
