In a residential neighborhood, almost like visiting a home where the host serves you her best teas. Very private place and you can sit there for couple hours sipping tea, have a few sweet snacks and chatting away.

This tea shop is called "Xiao Man"--"Little Slow" in Chinese--and it is a very nice place to sit down and savor Taiwan teas over a leisurely afternoon. Decorated to evoke the architecture of the Japanese colonial period, the setting is tasteful, natural, and quiet. Japanese...menus are available--and the shop seems to have been featured in Japanese travel magazines or guidebooks (I overheard fellow tea drinkers chatting in Japanese with the shopkeeper). The shop isn't really a restaurant--it is a place to enjoy tea and light sweets. On my recent visit, I just had tea with a friend--and thus I can't assess the sweets. We ordered tea--and the way this works is that you pay for tea--plus a tea set-up for however many people are in your party. The bill for two came to about 800 NT for two of us--just for tea--which was excellent--and we stayed for about two hours... Probably Wistaria tea house gives a better sense of Taiwan tea culture--and is more historically significant. But this is a nice (and less popular--and thus quieter) alternative.More
