I visited the restaurant because there was a lot of rave reviews. Since I'm in Nagoya,I should try the local delicacy. Udon also appealed to me today. A it was around 2 pm, the lunch crowd hsd mostly dissipated. It is a good time to...visit the place. When you are at the front door, write your name and indicate the number of pax. The staff will call for you when there is a table available. I orders the black clams udon. The serving of clams is generous. Needless to say, clams are fresh. The udon is a little too hard for my liking. That is why I didn't buy the convenient packs. Soup is relatively on the salty side. Nevertheless I finished all the soup. I probably got used to the saltiness. There are many branches all over Nagoya. Give it a try!More

Its another must try. The noodles were spectacularly good although I'm not a fan of the red miso sauce. Cheap.

I found those udon amazing! What make the big difference for me compared to other places I went to is the broth! Not too fat very tasty served in a hot pot and noodles boiled into the broth itself! Also no meat version which is...such a nice thing here where it is always a fight to NOt eat meat! Definitively a great discovery! If you like miso and not fat broth go there!More

This is our 2nd visit to Yamamotoya Honten @ESCA Mall within 2 years. Service standard and food quality remain excellent. Enjoyed the chewy noodles in miso soup. Love the grilled cochin chicken on a stick too. What is more: they have free flow of pickles....Definitely recommend this restaurant.More

Just arrived Nagoya, and this is a recommended restaurant around the hotel. Ordered 2 set of udon and they are a bit salty... Possibly the taste for Nagoya. Definitely worth a try but I am not a fan... :)

Yamamotoya is one of two restaurants that I always go to during my visit to Nagoya (the other one is Yabaton). There are several locations (I recently visited the one across the street from Nagoya Hilton) and I highly recommend their speciality, misonikomi udon (udon...in miso broth). There are different "toppings" that you can order with it. I usually go with shrimp tempura. The udon noodles are meant to be hard so don't worry even if it has the texture of an uncooked noodle. I also recommend the chicken skewers for appetizer (Nagoya kochin). Though it was extremely hot in August, I still enjoyed my steaming hot noodle bowl. Be prepared to wait during peak hours.More

The ambiance outside is inviting. The place is clean. The food is okay, if you fancy udon. Overall, the place is fine for me but you can scout for other restaurants in the place if you have the chance.

Menu is small and focus is on miso nikomi udon: udon noddles cooked in miso broth. 90 years history aside, there are no vegetables on menu and people around smoke. Udon itself is good, but you can find similar places with wider menu (e.g. near...APA Villa hotel which is near Marunouchi station).More
