We were looking for a place for Sunday lunch that was both dog friendly and with gluten free options. A few people had mentioned the Ship Inn and how good it was since the refurbishment. We weren't disapppointed. The place is stunningly decorated, really stylish but retaining a lot of the charm of a long-time pub on the sea front.... More

While the surroundings are lovely you certainly pay for the view ! We had half portions of fish and chips £9.50 each , while the fish was good the chips were underdone and obviously not fresh, the lemon was old and the the peas dry. The sweet, date tart , you would be challenged to taste the dates it was... More

Lovely pub in great location. Refurbishment of pub and restaurant is great. Nice atmosphere. Restaurant food was quite good but over priced for what it is. Fillet steak was an exceptionally expensive £35 and although nice was not good value or money. Service was a bit odd, can't explain why! Portion sizes are on the small side even allowing for... I've been visiting Elie since I was in nappies and this wasn't my first visit here. It was an enjoyable one though, especially on a cold and windy day in October. It was just the place to warm up after walking round the town and harbour with my wife and mother-in-law. I had a pot of peppermint tea and my... More

Enjoyed an excllent lunch here this week, two years on from their refurb. My party of three received a warm welcome and were seated upstairs. An almost uninterupted view of Elie's beautiful beach kept drawing our attention away from conversation and delicious meals. Menu featured old favourites such as fish & chips, but also included tempura winter vegetables (a delight!)... More

Having posted a poor review for The Ship in Mach 2016, I now feel that it is only fair that I write an excellent one. Since March last year, we have now returned 3 times and each time the food and the service have been very good. Last night we were a party of 9 and there were no complaints... More

Have been here twice as it has a gluten free menu. On both occasions the food was of a high quality, the service was excellent and the ambiance was good, although it can get a bit noisy at lunchtime. The bar downstairs is welcoming and cosy on a cold day. Would recommend a visit.

Have been to this place several times and you cant beat the setting. Sitting in the front outdoor area overlooking the sea with a bottle of Chardonnay is just divine! Dinner inside is good too with the nautical theme adding to the ambience!!

Description
The Ship Inn at Elie in Fife has long been one of Scotland's most iconic pubs, famous for its great views, stunning location, and even as the only pub in the world to have a cricket team with a pitch on the beach. The owners, Graham and Rachel Bucknall, who also run the Bridge Inn at Ratho (named as AA Pub of the Year in September 2014) purchased the Ship Inn, a pub they both knew very well, in late 2014. After a major 6-month renovation programme, they re-opened a transformed Ship Inn in the summer of 2015. 6 beautiful bedrooms were opened in March 2016. The inn is part of a row of old cottages by the harbour. At its heart is the bar where the comfy chairs and sofas beside the open fires and wood-burning stoves make a welcome sight, especially when it's windy and rainy outside. You are more than welcome just to call in for a coffee, but it's worth stopping longer for a pint, a whisky or a meal in the upstairs restaurant with its views of the bay. The same menu is offered throughout the inn - and if you have your dog with you, he or she is very welcome to join you downstairs - water, treats and even dog beds are provided. The food is of the hearty pub variety, but seafood, locally caught, is high on the menu. Graham and Rachel have also created delightful double and twin bedrooms, all with views of Elie Bay and the Firth of Forth. The Ship Inn is unique in the fact that it has the only cricket team in the UK that plays matches on the beach. From May to September, depending on the tide and after the sand has been rolled flat, the Ship's team hosts matches for other Scottish teams and touring teams from all over the world.
