I’ve been coming here for years and wanted to bring a special friend to experience the ambience, service and food. I realised just how much I missed it.
John and Megan have a real Gem here on Friday from 5pm and Saturday lunch only.
Don’t miss it, as it’s the ultimate Antiguan Authentic experience.
Continued success to you both.

We visited this restaurant and bar as part of a tour through Norwegian cruise line. It was called Taste of Antigua. The bar itself is great! Drinks were delicious. Loved how it’s outside but covered. The owners were super friendly.
The food we received as part of the tour was ok. The chicken was flavorful but I was expecting to receive more local cuisine offerings. Not necessarily a chicken tender (see picture of plate).
I definitely recommend visiting this spot! I just wanted to set expectations if you plan to visit via a tour from Norwegian cruise line.

Our guide Shemeka was great. Went through a ship excursions on NCL Getaway. The food was very good and the in-house rum punch was so good. đź‘Ś

A great little spot to hang out with old friends and new. Missed it a lot during the pandemic, it's good to see things getting back to normal.
We'll doubtless be back before long :)

Our Oceania Cruise tour was cancelled, so we walked alone to the Backyard Bar, finding it open as a prior tour had just ended. Although we weren't expected, the owners/hosts invited us to stay, take a seat at the bar, and enjoy an abbreviated presentation with excellent rum and snacks - they could not have been more accommodating! Don't miss a visit if you get the chance, for the most authentic local experience (and yummiest jerk chicken, ever!).

'Taste of fun Antigua" cruise excursion was so much fun....tasting the rum and food was great, but the crew and owners of the Backyard was the best part. They were fun, friendly and provided interesting information on Antigua. Highly recommend!

While on an Oceania cruise, Antigua was a stop. A ship board excursion was called "A Taste of Antigua" at the In The Backyard Bar. We were able to taste 2 Antiguan rums as well as rum punch. All very good. In addition, there was some Antiguan food specialties: conch fritters, jerk chicken, fried plantains and chicken tenders. It's not too far from the cruise port, near the hospital. Owner gave a history of Antigua and the rum industry. A great event. Highly recommended for anyone visiting the island. Btw, there are 365 great beaches on Antigua, one for each day of the year!

A nice experience, although we expected a Real Rum distillery according to the Itinerary, it was a restaurant.
The Price paid for the tour was far too expensive.
The food was great, so were the Owners.

This was a reasonable tour, with a rum tasting and small plate of food. Owners are pleasant, and knowledgeable about history of rum on the island. I wanted the food to be great, but it was really only fair, and included one jerk chicken wing, a conch fritter, and something else I can't even remember. We were supposed to have the recipes or cooking techniques shared with us, but this didn't happen. This was quite an expensive excursion, and I really really want to recommend it to support local business, but I really don't feel that I can. I would consider returning for a full meal, as I think it would be more authentic and maybe even more fun.

In general this was a nice tour. I am not sure it was worth the price charged on Norwegian. We took a 12 seat taxi to the BACKYARD restaurant, This was clean but tables are in a fenced yard with no view, and unfortunately , a lot of noisy trucks and traffic.
The owners are lovely and John told us the history of local rum, and his wife made delicious food. However this was called a "taste" of Antigua and that is what what we got. we tried a rum punch, and 2 shots of 3 and 5 year local rum.
The food served was quite tasty, but seemed more like an appetizer , did not feel it was enough food for the price of the tour. small green salad. One chicken drumstick wing of jerk chicken, one fish strip and a small conch fritter.

One of the better excursions on our recent 10-stop Caribbean cruise. The owners are very gracious and the setting is pleasant. The husband tells you about rum; the wife cooks and serves. She is a very good cook and gave us a lunch of salad, jerk chicken, salt fish, a fish stick, etc. We tasted several local rums, none to my liking, but the point is to try new things. My rule: You don't have to like everything, but you must try everything.
