Vegetarian suggestions: The goat cheese quesadilla was incredible. We also enjoyed the vegetarian sliders and warm brussel sprout salad. The restaurant is in the heart of La Placita, so if you want to go out before or after dinner- you're right in the thick of...More

Believe me, great food, great wines. Great ambience. Crowded, busy, tight, on Friday and Saturday. Extremely expensive food and wine. Not for family meals.

Good food...by a well known Chef...although with plenty of fans, a little bit of work on service could bring new ones which are needed in the highly competitive restaurateurs scene in San Juan...

Santaella certainly deserves to be on the top 5 restaurants list in San Juan. The food is extraordinary. It is also a local bar and gets quite loud, for some too loud so as to diminish the dining experience. The octopus and veal cheeks, as...More

My wife and I have been to Santaella twice now and we love it. It’s a great atmosphere and very upbeat, which is exactly what we like before a night out on the town. The people that hang out there are very social too. We...More

I went on a Wednesday night, and you'd expect such a fancy rest to well, be full, but I was not expecting a "excuse me" to get through the door because of how crowded it was. Went for a business dinner, but ended up talking...More

Made a reservation for Santaella online based on TripAdvisor reviews. We were in San Juan for one night before our cruise. The restaurant was a short distance from the Marriott Stellaris but probably not walkable due to narrow streets. Uber fare was about $4. We...More

I would say not expensive is you come from the USA but can get pricy for locals. Average high ... 18 to 35. On the other hand cóctails are around 15 per cóctails.

Chef José Santaella has trained with some of the best chefs in the world, including Ferrán Adriá, Eric Ripert, and Gary Danko. His apprenticeships and successful catering career paved the way for Santaella, his signature restaurant in Santurce's La Placita Marketplace. The decor is rustic yet elegant, with exposed walls, Edison light fixtures, an interior garden, and a sparkling bar. Chef Santaella fuses local and international ingredients to perfectly execute Puerto Rican nouvelle cuisine. The menu is dominated by tapas, which you can easily make into a meal. Favorites include the ahi tuna skewers, goat cheese quesadilla, 'alcapurrias' topped with crab, and foie gras terrine with fruit jelly . The cocktail bar is one of the best on the island, so don't leave without trying one of the concoctions by Santaella's mixologists. -Fodors
