I don’t think it can get any better than this. We tried the 5 course menu and loved everything about it. The beef tenderloin steak was melting . The white bean soup was amazing. Everything we tried was great and now I would love to...return to try other food! Amazing food, beautiful presentation, great service … It should be your place to go for your special occasion once visiting San Juan . I would definitely returnMore

A truly global experience! We opted for the tasting menu with wine paring and it did not disappoint!! Don’t sleep on the white bean soup; normally I wouldn’t order a soup on a tasting menu but it’s the rich aunt of a midwest potato soup...who just got back from her European vacation. I will forewarn patrons that the dishes are certainly not small. When we learned the chef was from Idaho the portion sizes made sense but you are certainly getting your moneys worth! Amber was a true delight and walked us through every portion of the evening! I am gluten intolerant and the menu was very easily accommodated! I would highly recommend this restaurant to any foodie or wine aficionado.More

Located in the Old town, one is immediately struck by the light and welcoming feel of the space as the hostess walks you to your table. High ceilings with Moroccan style openings creating discrete separation of various seating areas. The look and feel of Marmalade...can be summed up with the word "Texture". From the walls to the seat fabrics and plates, you feel and see texture. This also contributes to the subdued noise level - a quiet conversation is no problem. We were seated in a section obviously designed for couples [we let them know we were celebrating]. Our table had rose petals laid out - very romantic. They have a 5 course pre-fix menu for $115/pp as well as "specials" and upgrades which can more than double the price. The wine pairing is an additional $69/pp. They do have a very nice wine selection. We chose not to do the wine pairing and in hindsight, it was the right choice. We were completely stuffed by the time we barely finished half of our desert. The croissant bread pudding was amazing. Every dish we were served, was beautifully assembled and delicious. Marmalade is expensive but we felt we got our money's worth. Be sure to read the cocktail list and descriptions - very amusing.More

Marmalade Restaurant & Wine Bar We came from the Washington D.C. area for a few days to get away from the cold. We wanted to give a try to the Marmalade Restaurant on Tuesday December 13, 2021 away from the generic rice, bean, and meat...dishes. We didn’t know the hype around this restaurant but appreciated that the restaurant checked vaccination cards. When we were there, the tables were well spaced and mostly occupied by non local clients. We were informed earlier that three cruise ships were docked at port. These are some of our observations: 1. The popcorn shrimp was terribly salty. The Ceviche was extremely hot although the server asked prior to my ordering if I could eat spicy a dish. I didn’t expect it to be so hot and spicy which was unfortunate since I was unable to taste the basic ingredients. 2. My wife’s white bean soup was excellent, and it was the best of the five course dinner we ordered. 3. We were surprised by the plentiful portions of each course, and our server was very attentive. 4. For dessert I ordered Cinnamon roll with berries, and my wife ordered bread pudding. They were a bit doughy and mushy which was pretty disappointing. 5. For the final analysis, was it worth $300 for a two person dinner with tax and gratuity? Certainly not $300. The restaurant was mostly patronized by tourists (mainly American mainlanders, at least surrounding our table). The restaurant being in the historical Old San Juan area seems to be avoided by most locals. We felt the restaurant reflected a tourist price (The medium annual PR income in 2020 was 22K). Dr. Burke/Dr. Bailey The following day, I had an upset stomach. The possible culprit could be Ceviche which was the only uncooked dish besides a beet salad which my wife ordered, and she was fine. I have eaten Sashimi all my life and never had any issue. Fortunately, my wife being an emergency medicine physician, her luggage is reminiscence of a traveling pharmacy, and I was treated with a probiotic pill and anti-gastroenteritis pill.More

The food & ambiance are great and the service is amazing but I have never been so uncomfortably cold in a restaurant before. We rushed through 5 courses because we were dressed for the temperature outside and it felt like a refrigerator inside! My friend...barely touched her dessert to stand outside and wait on me because she couldn't handle the cold for another second. I don't know if we were sat under an AC vent or what but I have never been so unhappy about a high end dining experience. It's impossible to enjoy yourself when you're THAT cold. And I am not usually someone who gets cold easily so this was BAD. Take a jacket/sweater and wear long pants & closed toe shoes or expect to be utterly miserable!More

The food, the wine, the atmosphere, the service were all top-notch, five-stars! Several of our party mentioned this was the meal of a lifetime! We enjoyed the Christmas Eve tasting menu and our group included a vegan and a vegetarian. every single dish was perfectly...prepared and perfectly paired with a reasonably-priced wine. I very highly recommend Marmalade!More

Finally got to catch up with friends I hadn't seen in too long in San Juan at Marmalade. Since we were a larger party, we had the excellent 14-course menu! There were also vegetarians happy to share bites of their dishes, so it's hard to...remember everything. A few standouts I think I remember.. Beets with hearts of palm, ceviche and tostones, popcorn shrimp with ancho chile popcorn, vegan dal and turmeric meatballs with eggplant, rabbit, short rib with horseradish, squash ramen, a delicious lamb tagine with pomegranate seeds, white bean pancetta soup so good we had to order a second bottle of the 2010 Bichot Charmes-Chambertin just for it. It's hard to pass up the many goodies hanging out on their wine list, but it looks like they also have some very thoughtful wine pairings for each dish which I may have to try next time. Service was very good. Wine knowledge was great. I gave up on pictures — the food was too good and kept on coming from all directions!More

We had an outstanding anniversary dinner at Marmalade. We were wished a Happy Anniversary and walked to a table with rose petals. Every single person who approached our table from water refills to food runners wished us a Happy Anniversary. It is such a great...touch. We had the 5 course tasting menu with wine pairings. Our server was fantastic and explained every course and wine to us in detail. Her knowledge was really exceptional. The food is beyond phenomenal. Highlights were the signature White bean truffle soup, the lobster risotto, the Halibut and the Beef tenderloin. I was able to get the soup recipe and plan to try it for New Year’s We mostly ordered different items so we could try many things. All 9 items were excellent. The portions are large for a tasting menu and, with 5 portions of wine each, we Ubered back to our hotel stuffed, a bit tipsy and extremely happy. It was a perfect anniversary and the highlight of our vacation. Thank you Marmalade, we hope to be back.More

It’s only about an 8 to 10 minute walk from the port in San Juan. You should not need a taxi. And enjoy Marmalade because it is absolutely amazing!
