Called in for a weekday sausage & mash lunch & couldn't resist Mokta's famous onion gravy , followed by a choice of home baked desserts to die for. This little side street cafe is a must for those who want food other than just burgers & pizzas... & if you want a Sunday lunch to make even Deliah or Jamie... More

Mooktars is a small café / bistro that pride's itself on honest, tasty, fresh food and this it delivers. Staff always friendly. The menu is diverse from panninis to breakfasts to roasts and quite a lot in between. If you're looking for a pretentious expensive eatery then, sadly, you will be disappointed. If you're looking for a well prepared, tasty... More

Visiting Merthyr with my sister, needed lunch & saw this cafe down a side lane. I felt confident although my sister had reservations! Anyway, walked in to peruse the menu as no menu visible & checked out the 'specials' board. The proprietor welcomed us & informed us there was a more extensive menu on the tables. We found a nice... Went with family for a Sunday lunch. Nice food, lovely staff - waitress was lovely when dealing with my daughters awkward requests! Good price. It was very busy. We are from out of town but it is clearly a local favourite.

Moktar's kitchen can be found in a small side street off a largely pedestrianised area on the edge of the town centre. There's limited parking (a problem in Merthyr Tydfil) nearby or a supermarket car park just beyond that. The cafe offers a very good breakfast although it took a short while to turn up as it was freshly cooked.... More

Only a little way off the Taff Trail which we were cycling and, whilst it perhaps looks a little tired from the outside once inside things improved greatly. Staff were very helpful and the food was served promptly even though they were quite busy. Food was voted a winner alround. Indeed, on the return leg from Cardiff, when two of... More

Visited today for the first time in a long time and we weren't disappointed. We had a roast and Hunter's chicken - both were home made and were delicious, with that something special you can only get from good homemade food. Would highly recommend, I would ignore the recent negative comment, just an isolated personal opinion that's difficult to believe... More

Meal was served after a very lengthy wait of 40minutes.My meal was salmon fishcakes and chips .I was served two very greasy small fishcakes with very small portion of chips and told that more chips would arrive soon.By the time they arrived I was so horrified by the amount of fat on my plate that the meal was inedible!!.I was... Called in for a Sunday dinner before heading home to West Wales, got there a bit before they were ready, so the friendly staff said if we waited about 10 mins they would be ready to start service, and they said that we won't be disappointed. How true they were, we ordered two chicken dinners and was absolutely fantastic, Lovely... More

Friendly atmosphere and freshly prepared great tasting food, You can have a breakfast here for only £2.50, it is only a small seating area so would advise to either book or come early to secure a table.
