What's gone wrong with this place? WAS classy with great food and service...NOW haphazard and random .We were left in the bar beyond our booking time and had to seek out our table ourselves to find our reservation had been wrongly ticked and staff thought we were already checked in......Also other diners receiving our orders, no one returning to take... A little out of town but Very surprised and Pleased as on our approach was clearly 'way more' than an ordinary public house. The outside area, furniture was classy, fountain, nice seating areas - would love to go back when warmer weather. On entrance seemed a warm welcoming oldey worldey pub, but clean and airy, with plenty of space. Service... More

This was third on a list of places we wanted to eat Saturday lunch. The first was full and the second closed. Thank goodness as it meant we ended up here instead and had a wonderful meal. The food was of a very high standard with their signature starter of crab and boar fresh and tasty. The portions of stone... More

Just had a meal at the Crab and Board. Food very average. My mackerel was raw. Chips over cooked. All food tasteless. Was expecting better. Now have a stomach ache hope it was not the mackerel. Felt sleey and characterless. Was expecting much better. Just below average pub food. Unsure if we visited on the chefs night off.

First time visit, read some previous reviews that were mixed, but thought I would prefer to make up my own mind. The reality was faultless service, a warm welcome, staff who were friendly and knowledgeable. Food was excellent quality and good value with a varied wine list and local beers. Was well worth the trip and will definitely make a... More

Went to check out as a possible dinner venue - not bowled over by the menu, had heard it used to be great seafood. Service just for drinks was very slow; simply not enough staff, although the ones there were trying to soldier on, being both courteous and apologetic. Lovely looking place, though. But given the problems with service, decided... More

Arrived to a very cold welcome. Couldn't find our booking despite having phoned earlier in the day to confirm. We were then ushered to a waiting area rather than going through to table as requested. The service throughout the meal was very rude, when we asked if we could have fruit for dessert because a member of our party had... More

This restaurant had been recommended and we had a 1pm Lunch reservation. On arrival the carpark was almost empty on a Friday Lunch! Strange? Or an indicator of things to come. The bar was empty, was a pattern forming. After waiting a few minutes w decided to explore the deserted waiting area and pensively entered the restaurant to be confronted an... More

I don't often enjoy restaurants as I did this one. The staff were very friendly and the food of a high standard. The artisan bread was excellent. I started with mussels that were also excellent (had to ask for a fingerbowl). My main course wad on the menu as "whole Brill" but it wasn't a whole fish. Nevertheless it was... More

Description
We're a country pub and all of our menus showcase the best of Britain with plenty of fresh, local produce and dishes that tip their hats to the seasons. Whether you want to indulge in rich local game, fresh-off-the-boat crab or just kick off your wellies and relax with a pint and a scotch egg, here you'll get a true taste of the great British countryside. It's not just our food that we're proud of here, we've also spent time picking the best local ales and award-winning British spirits and wines for behind our bar, alongside some old favourites. From Sipsmith artisan gin to Nyetimber bubbles, make sure to take some time to sample our drinks menu too. We even stock Snuffle dog beer for any canine companions. We are proud to have received 2 Rosettes and 4 Stars for our accommodation by the AA. We are also part of 'Pub group of the year 2016' by the Good Pub Guide.
