Great flavors from all the dishes we tried. Tacos, chicken mole, roasted veal ribs and all the dessert dishes were heart-warming and delish! Highly recommend this place.

Located in a nice and busy business area, this is one of my favorite restaurants in Mexico City. I am specially fond of their bakery! However, all that I have tried in their menu and specials is great quality and flavor, as most of mexican food!!

Our various excellent walking guides and food guides (Eat Mexico Culinary Tours and Journeys Beyond the Surface) all suggested El Cardenal as the "place to go" for old world food at its best. It is, indeed. There are tame selections for the faint of heart, but if you're adventurous, definitely try the creamy and well-seasoned brain empanadas, the beef tongue... More

I just came from Washington DC and the first thing that I want is my delicious REAL Mexicana food, and the best option to try the Mixiote is in this restaurant! I'm Mexican and I have been tasting good food all around the city, but a Mixiote like this one just here! Also please do not hesitate to order sweet... More

Each time I visit Mexico City I try to have dinner here. This is one of the best mexican restaurants in town. In June and July they serve (beside all other international dishes) Maguey Worms and in August, September and first days of October, Chinicuiles (red Maguey Worms) and Huitlacoche (maize mushroom). Service is very good.

El Cardenal is a very traditional restaurant in Mexico, it's food is just delicious, cooked the traditional way with very high quality ingredients and amazing service! If you are in town during the Chiles en Nogada season, this restaurant is an absolute must!

If you are in the downtown and want to try real Mexican food, El Cardenal is one of the best options. Prices are average, but their kitchen is excellent! Just be patience because you will have probably wait for about 30 minutes as must of the times is crowded.

This is an traditional restaurant inside a beautiful old building. The food is amazing at all times but I recommend that you go there for breakfast. Lots of options to chose from but most dishes are prepared with local ingredients. Try the Omelette de Huazontles and the hot chocolate. Be there EARLY, no later than 9:30AM unless you want to...
