Located in the Jalatlaco area which is perhaps a twenty minute walk from Santo Domingo. But worth the walk because not only do you get to experience different areas with less tourists but you get to experience the Oaxaca of the locals. El Biche Pobre is located on a corner and if you can't find it ask one of the... More

This place is in the adorable area of Jalatlaco. It is a place filled with mostly locals, and it is no frills. But the waiter was great and eager to please, and the food was delicious and in hearty portions. We had mini tamales with black beans, chicken in mole and enchiladas in mole. I highly recommend this for typical... More

My husband and I went here based on tripadvisor reviews and I thought that although there were many positives, it was not great. Pluses include the homey ambiance and eating with other families, the friendliness of the staff and the unpretentious approach. I ordered mixed chicken and beef fajitas which were fine and had a good flavor, but the beef... More

El Biche Pobre is definitely one of the best restaurants in Oaxaca. There is not a lot of tourists, but a lot of many locals, food is excellent, atmosphere is good and prices are reasonable. The restaurant is located in a few minutes from the center of the city in the street Hidalgo. It’s not easy to find it, so... More

Have given this 5 stars because one of the best in class..the class being neighborhood spots..as opposed to top line restaurants. A comfortable walk from the Zocalo, in a quiet, non-tourist area. Very good, attentive service and explanation of unfamiliar dishes. Had a 'light' lunch starting with Consomme Xochitl, 30p, which would be perfect for a delicate tummy (chicken broth,... More

Had breakfast here and wanted to go back for dinner but they close at 7pm and we ran out of time! Food was really good and served in very large portions. Waiter was most helpful in trying to explain things on the menu. Great value for money. Definitely on our list for next trip.

By far the best meal we had in Oaxaca city. Very attentive service, good food in a pleasant bistro type restaurant. Best of all, was that it was full of locals (and families) who all seemed to be enjoying their meals. Located a few blocks off the park surrounding the Iglesia de Guadalupe it is easy walking distance from the... More

Beef strips in a chipotle sauce. The beef was like candy, it just disolves in your mouth. The sauce was not hot but a nice spice with a gentle sweetness.

We stumbled onto Biche Pobre after leaving another, fancier restaurant in Jalatlaco because we couldn't stand the noise there. Biche Pobre was probably a better choice than our original destination. The atmosphere and service are informal, but the food is wonderful and the drinks are generous. We'll definitely go back. One warning: the kitchen closes at 7:00, so go early.

We bought take-out food twice and then enjoyed a fantastic late lunch (4pm) in this bustling, authentic restaurant full of locals from the neighborhood. The Pollo Consome (chicken broth soup) and the Caldo Camerones (shrimp soup) were amazingly flavorful and fresh, the prawns/shrimps plump, and the Ensalada Mixta (mixed salad) was huge and full of a fresh variety of vegetables....
