We enjoyed the environment for our lunch. It has a beach theme throughout. There was a nice breeze flowing through it. The service was great. The food was so good. We love seafood and enjoyed the fried fish and shrimp cocktail. We also enjoyed the...ceviche and all the small appetizers/sauces served at the beginning. It even had a picture frame for us to take pictures in one corner.More

This was the only place open for a sit down meal when we got to Mercado 24 around 6pm. It's mostly seafood, but did have a few chicken and beef options. I got the fried chicken, which is not what you would expect fried chicken...to be if you're from the US. US fried chicken is breaded chicken here, or empanizado. So it came as a bone in chicken leg and thigh that was probably cooked on a skillet. It was a little dry, but they provide so many sauces that makes up for it. The fries were absolutely delicious, and it also comes with rice and a salad mix on the side. They also brought out some appetizers that were pretty good. Chips with this sauce thing that I have no idea what it was and these small spicy things too It was overall very nice!More

We are Americans and visited Mercado 23 for an afternoon. The food at Isla Contoy was delicious, and the service was excellent. They were very patient with our three young children, especially when they spilled all over the table! Eat the pan de cazon. Very...delicious!More

This place looked intriguing and we were hungry and hot and sweaty. The owner greeted us warmly and we were seated promptly. He visibly cooled when we didn’t order any beer, we don’t drink much, and it went downhill from there. We ordered from the...seemingly reasonably priced menu, but laughed to ourselves when the meagre portions arrived. I’m not actually sure if there was any chicken between the skin and the bones of my dish... Anyways, I certainly won’t be back. The 300+lb crooner they had singing could have cleared the room with his voice if the guests hadn’t have been famished!More

This brightly decorated seafood restaurant is located on a street corner opposite Mercado 23 in downtown Cancun, a few blocks from the Avenida Tulum. We ate there twice in three days. It wasn’t crowded at dinner time and prices were incredibly reasonable. The chicken fajitas...were good and the filet of fish prepared Vera Cruz style was wonderful! Our waiter was charming and wished us “buen provecho.” Overall, the prices were great, service excellent and the space was airy and relaxing. If we lived in Cancun we’d eat there regularly. Only open until 8 pm. Highly recommend!More

We came here when we were visiting Mercado 23. The tacos were tasty with generous portions of shrimp or fish. You get 4 tacos per order, for around 110 pesos ($5.50) Beware the mariachis, they want to be tipped generously if you allow them to...play a song. For this reason, we politely declined when they came to our table. I recommend this place to anyone visiting the nearby Market -- but wouldn't go out of my way to come here!More

After reading a review on Trip Advisor, we decided to eat at this restaurant. We got the seafood parillada for 4, even though there was only the 2 of us because it cost just a little bit more than the parillada for 2 and we...were hungry. We got a very generous platter of fish, shrimp, octopus and calamari with fries, rice and tortillas. The service was good, the place was clean and the waiter spoke English. Our only regret was that we did not make it back for another meal at this restaurant.More

This restaurant is frequented by locals and that is the type may husband and I love. We return year after year on our annual visits to Cancun. The fish is always fresh and impeccably prepared. We usually chose the Parillada por dos personas, grilled platter...of seafood for 2. The surprise is the platter comes with both grilled and fried sea food. ours included basa, shrimp, octopus and calamari (squid) There is also a generous serving of fries, rice, fresh vegetables, salsa and grilled peppers, tomatoes and onions. It is truly more than 2 people can eat but we did our best. The seafood soup is rich and plentiful with mariscos. The ceviche is perfection. The prices are unbelievably modest. Our seafood platter was $17.50. We will be back again next year.More

Our stop at Isla Contoy saved us. My kids were exhausted and cranky after walking through Mercado 23 on a very hot, humid, and smelly day. They were asking to take the bus back to our condo in the hotel zone and I still wanted...to continue exploring downtown Cancun. I saw Isla Contoy and recognized it as a restaurant that had been recommended on the Mapchick Cancun map. I talked my kids into going in for a cold drink before catching the bus. This stop rejuvenated everyone and perked my kids up so much we walked to Mercado 28 and then the downtown Walmart after that. (Long walk. Probably wouldn't walk it again.) At Isla Contoy the drinks were cold and my kids ordered the fried chicken and french fries they saw on the menu. Fries were good, but my kids were expecting chicken nuggets, I guess, and were disappointed when they saw a wing and drum stick instead. I thought it was awesome though and probably ate more than they did. Their meals also had rice on the side, which was good. Service was excellent, and the salsa and chips were great. The salsas were hot and had a great flavor. The bathrooms were clean, and had a good supply of lovely smelling soap, for which I was very grateful! We don't speak much English but were able to communicate just fine with the wait staff. Each menu item was listed in Spanish, as well as in English.More
