After a great lazy day of floating around the pool for our last day in Cancun, we almost decided to skip a nice dinner and just grab some (more) tacos from a casual spot nearby.
But, after debating and reading some reviews, we decided to call at 7pm and see if La Buena Barra had any open tables for 7:30. Since CancĂşn dinner culture generally ramps up after 8, we were in luck and headed to the restaurant.
We were warmly greeted by the host team and escorted promptly to a great table outside, overlooking the lagoon and the last bits of sunset in the sky. The ambience of La Buena Barra is amazing, great lighting, ceiling fans to keep a light breeze going, and music that is loud enough to prevent you from hearing conversations at other tables, but still allowed us to talk just fine.
Our servers Jonathan and Estefany were the sweetest and most attentive that we experienced during our trip! Excellent food recommendations, even advising against getting a second dessert (due to their size) instead of just letting us spend more money there. Absolutely worthy of 5 star service!
Ok- the food: very good, probably some of the more distinct flavors we enjoyed in Cancun. Also a very unique selection of cocktails, delivered in all sorts of unique glasses. BUT truly the best thing we ate was the corn ice cream! It’s molded ice cream that looks exactly like an ear of white corn with a ribbon of dulce de leche in the center- honestly the best ice cream I’ve ever eaten at a restaurant!
Prices per person can easily exceed $1000 pesos here depending on what you get, but it’s possible to enjoy the experience on a budget. We shared an appetizer (empanadas, highly recommend), shared a large entree (ribeye tacos, comes with 7), a cocktail, side of corn, and dessert- ended up being around $1200 plus tip.
Can’t wait to come back and enjoy La Buena Barra again!

My wife and I read the reviews and decided to try this steak house out. The atmosphere is great. We had a very attentive waiter, and assistants to the waiter. They start out with a small shot of soup form the chef which was good. Drinks were made perfectly. We ordered the salt slab rib eye steak to share. It is a large steak that they pour mescal on and set on fire table side. The steak was okay, but no seasonings. It also got cold quick but the waiter put it back on the hot salt slab. So it was a good steak, but not a great steak. I am unsure why the chefs in Mexico never use seasonings on the steaks. This restaurant is on the high end price wise so be prepared. They charge for everything they put on the table, including the breads sticks. If you want steak, I would recommend La Buena Barra, but ask for seasonings.

We were super bummed when they closed La Habiscuela! But after dining at Buena Barra, we could not have imagined a better place to open there! It was spendy, but it was VERY good. Interesting menu, with outstanding service. When we sat down, they treated us to an amazing chick pea soup in a little cup. It was delicioso. Then they brought chips with numerous amazing sauces, and they replensihed it repeatedly. The shirmp was insanely good, and the mashed potatoes with truffle oil - unreal. Then we had a fried cauliflower. It was super tasty as well. To end the meal, they brought out shots of a Mezcal libation with dry ice. Superb presentation and very satisfying. AAAA++ Special kudos to Jesus and Saul who waited on us. Crazy good!

The $100’ish rib eye cap steak for 2 was tasty even after sending it back for more cooking. We ordered medium, it arrived medium rare and was returned to us at medium well.
The expensive drinks that we ordered from 2 “Mixologists” were too sugary and had little alcohol. I asked for a martini twice while the martini cart was at our table and was steered to 2 mixed drinks on the rocks from the bar. We complained about the drinks to 5 people and were instead comp’d with a salad that we had been overcharged for.
The wait staff is professional and overly attentive. Our table was constantly cleaned and service items removed, except for the round of drinks that we sent back for remaking and that sat on our table for the entire meal. No one asked how our meal or drinks were and I had to voluntarily offer feedback.
The cleanliness of the restaurant and bathrooms is excellent, as was Covid protocol. The sunset celebration was fun and there was a magician that we saw at other tables. I enjoyed the DJ but agree with other reviews that it’s too loud. Check your bill for accuracy.

Amazing service, great food & vibe. Hostesses & waiters were extremely friendly, as well as very attentive when something was needed. Our waiters were Roberto & Marco, they answered any & every question asked. They made sure we enjoyed out food. Roberto & Marco gave great recommendations on what to eat & how it should be cooked for a great dinner experience!

I ordered a dirty martini and requested a minimal amount of olive brine. I even said “no more than ¼ of a teaspoon.” Well that didn’t work out. Came too salty. Don’t feel bad. There isn’t a single place in Cancun that can make a dirty martini with just a few drops of juice. From now on, the brine comes on the side. Also, drinks were relatively on the small side; my wife tamarind margarita more ice than anything else in it.
Food was fine, nothing spectacular that I can’t wait to go back and try again, We ordered a portion of the lechon. It was barely warm. And the skin had been laid down on the meat juices so that it became soggy rather than crunchy. The tuna tartare was OK, not as tasty for example as Rosa Negra or Puerto Madero. It definitely needed the soy sauce accompanying the tostadas. My expectation for tuna tartare is that, condiment and taste wise, the item should stand on its own. Our order definitely needed the soy sauce to complete it.
The most annoying part of the evening was the service. Sadly, we ended up with a very pushy waiter. We know what we want, when we want it and how much of it we can consume. But unfortunately, he was a “selling” machine which is probably the way he has been trained. Maybe we will have better luck next time although that will be in the not so near future.

I took my wife and four children ages 7 to 11 here for dinner tonight and it was fantastic! Highly recommend! The manage, Yadir and our server, Angec, were exceptional at Making sure everyone was having a great time.
They made our kids feel special by making them fun drinks and many other little things that made them feel welcome.
My wife healthy garlic prawn and I had the 16 ounce ribeye. We also had both cheese appetizers, the ribeye tacos, asparagus, and the truffle fries. We ate every bit of it because the food absolutely wonderful!
Go! You won’t regret it!

Our Concierge from Live Aqua recommended this "establishment" for a great authentic experience. Well if this is what they think of "Gringo's", then they nailed it. It started with a cab ride that we spent riding farther form the place to make a U turn to, than we actually drove. Total drive about 2 minutes 7.50$ no lube. Upon Entry we were seated immediately. On the patio side we did have a beautiful view of the water. Club music was playing in the background. After being seated the mixologist arrived. The vibe was you ARE getting a drink, NOT can I get you one. No prices whatsoever. Honestly this was the best part of the meal. Then the wait staff recommended the highest priced meal old the menu. 2200 pesos for center cut steak, "enough for two he said. I knew then we were going to get hassled. So I pull out my phone and start converting the prices. We settled for some 450 Pesos meals that were overpriced. 8 mini tacos with meat only 450 pesos. Then some steak with Guacamole in a bowl 466 pesos. When we finished the meal the bill was 1465 pesos. They figured U.S. price 84$. Actual prices 65-66$. These clowns tried to include tip on the price, that is illegal in Mexico. So gave the guy 85$ and you would have thought I punched his mother. So gave the guy another 10 bucks and he was getting angry. We finally told him we gotta get home pal. We then left while he was fake nice about it. Bottom line the drink was Awesome and the atmosphere was cool. That does not change the fact that they SCAM Gringo's. What they tried was illegal and I will Never Recommend this place to anyone.

Terrible weather so we arrived very early for cocktails. From the moment we sat down we were taken care of. The cocktail cart arrived within seconds, followed by Marco our waiter who recommended some terrific dishes - the crab taco, steak taco, guacamole, and churros. Great service. If they could only take the hurricane away.

I had the best ribye steak. Server Giovanni Gladio was very attentive to us, very well informative about the menu. Nice restaurant, ambiance and Excellent service, the place is highly recommended. We will definitely come back. Thanks for a great experience

Justino and Luis were amazing and I can't tell you how great they made the last day of our honeymoon.
The drinks were perfect, the rib eye cooked on a SALT BLOCK was better than most I eat in Texas - and the homemade tortillas with fillet were divine.

We are staying at the Westin Lagunamar and were looking for a nice restaurant nearby with good food and we definitely found it! When we first sat down we were greeted by our server, Leonel, and introduced to the house mixologist who made my friend and I each a custom cocktail. She had a pink rum drink with fresh berries and I had a tequila drink with watermelon. They were delicious. We then were served a taste of the most delicious soup. Dinner was amazing! The fillet was incredible as well as the tacos and papa paja! Leonel anticipated our every need and made the experience so wonderful. Package all that with a gorgeous view of the lagoon and the amazing bar overlooking the dining patio. I will definitely be back on my next trip to Cancun!!

What a delightful Thursday evening dinner we had! The service from Carlos & Gebrar was top notch! My husband and daughter shared the table side-prepared salt rock tenderloin, which was flavored and flamed to perfection. It was an experience in itself. I thoroughly enjoyed my tuna tostadas, which were four 3” tostadas piled high with sashimi-grade tuna and a side of soy; though it is shown on the menu as an appetizer, I found it to be more than I could eat alone, especially with my husband offering me delicious bites of tenderloin! I was also impressed with their wine selection; the digital wine list made it easy to see the options and fine a Sauvignon Blanc perfectly paired for my meal. I hope more restaurants offer this. We recommended this restaurant to our Friends at the hotel when we returned and they have reserved for tonight. If we weren’t leaving town today, I would insist on joining them and requesting Carlos & Gebrar as our servers!

We were treated to one of the best meals I’ve ever had. The service provided by Alejandro and Jorge was outstanding ding. Every glass was kept filled and the food was beyond measure. Highly recommend this for those of you seeking a fine dining experience with a fun vibe.

One of the best on the water restaurants with live music on Thursdays and a house dj. Not to mention the mixologist on site with an excellent array of drinks, ask them to surprise you and you will not be disappointed. The food is exceptional and flavorful starting from the 8 different types of salsas they bring to your table along with house made tortilla shells accompanied by a garbanzo soup to excite the palate. The service is by far the best I have encountered while on this trip, they go above and beyond to make your experience one to remember. If you are ever in Cancun this place is a must try and ask for Edwin and Hiram, two of my favorite servers.
