We had dinner for the second time about a month ago. So, I'll write on behalf of the two experiences. We live in Monterrey (lots of upscale restaurants with terrific chefs) and had to visit Merida for a wedding each time. A friend recommended the restaurant as one of Merida's must. She said the chef was a great one kind... More

We were the first customers to arrive last night and chose to sit out on the breezy patio. Our server was perfectly bilingual, and above all could describe every offering on the menu and the manner it was prepared. I was curious about the vinaigrette my guest was served and sipped it from a small beaker. To my surprise, chlorophyll,... More

We had a chef tasting menu for lunch, and it was fabulous. I intend to nominate Roberto Solis, the owner and head chef, for a Michelin star. The black onion appetizer was awesome, and I have never seen such a preparation anywhere. We had 6 courses, and for me the highlight was the Suckling Pig. Roberto chose a wine for... More

Nectar is a delight for the mouth and the eyes. The Yucatecan menu is taken to a new level as the recipes have been updated to deliver subtle and sublime tastes in addition to the traditional underpinnings of the dishes. We had the Black Onions, Short Rib Tacos, Deer Panuchos and Pork Belly. Each dish melted in your mouth leaving... More

This restaurant came highly rated and we had good expectations going in. It was a Thursday night and yet the place was virtually empty when we walked in, with one singleton and one other table of two. Yet swarming with staff. We opted to sit outside to avoid this odd dynamic. The food was surprisingly poor. We stared with the... More

We live in Mexico and eat in Mexico City and San Miguel de Allende and NYC and had a good meal here in Merida at Apoala and looked forward. Virtually every bite was awful. Their famous black onions were cold, hard flavorless with scant sauce inside on bed of cold charcoal. Caesar salad was maybe three tablespoons of wilted greens... More

Overall a great experience although quite sedate environment and in the North of Merida. Great wine list with very helpful server suggestions. Mexican wine that is worth the trip. Food is well executed and creative with locally sourced ingredients form Yucatan. Would go back again. Have not had this level of food except at Kuuk which is its only real... More

I recommend this restaurant. We visited on New Year's Eve, and with the meal selection fixed, we were able to sample many different foods. Some excellent; some I would not choose -- but they made for an interesting dining experience. Service was excellent and attentive. Everyone enjoyed themselves. The celebration at midnight was warmly shared by everyone. I would return... More
