In General, the restaurants on Don Khone and Don Det are not very special. At The Garden you will find fine Lao food beyond average. The Laab is just great, the lemon chicken fresh and the papaya salad spicy, but not over done. The restaurant...has two spots one on Don Khon, the other at the French bridge on Don Det. Last one is nicer as you have the best view on the river and the architecture is open and modern. The service people is friendly, fast and have English language skills.More

Our dinner was so good here that we came back the next night! Fried Mekong fish with coconut rice and the large salad are superb. We did not find the wait time to be any longer than other restaurants. Only problem was they were out...of white wine which would have been nice with the dinner.More

We went there for dinner twice and the dishes were very delicious and freshly made. Waiters are very friendly, however we can confirm waiting times when the place is busy - so we recommend to go there early to avoid this.

I ate there dinner, only once. It is a small place, only a few tables. The cooking is in an open, very small kitchen. The greatness of the place is in the freshness of the food, the dishes are cooked when ordered. The downside of...it is the very long wait to be served. I arrived at 19:30 and waited 40 minutes for my order with about only 10 diners seated around the tables, regretfuly they all arrived shortly before me. It would have been wise to check beforehand the best time to arrive.More

Thoroughly recommend. Equivalent to (or better than) standard of many top London restaurants. Excellent creative mix of spices making the food very tasty rather than just hot. The steamed fish in banana leaf was particularly delicious. Loved the way the food was cooked in the...restaurant and served progressively (rather than all at once). Pity we only had one night to eat there.More

Cooked in front of you, all is fresh and spiced with taste, not too hot but full of divine flavors. Strongly recommend.

Delicious food, very tasty. You can even see the chefs preparing everything in front of you (best proof of quality). They are also very welcoming and friendly. And the place is really charming too. Highly recommended.

There are cheaper places in the village, where the average price of a plate is 15,000, but one taste of the food at Garden will make you glad you paid a little extra. We started with the summer rolls, which come with egg and vegetables...(so suitable for all) and a delicious fish sauce.the fried fish comes with a brilliant mountain of coconut rice, and the fried fish in banana leaf with sticky rice was terrific, packed with flavour and melt in the mouth. If you want authentic home cooking rather than another plate of pok and rice, Garden should be your first stop.More

A very good restaurant in the island. We really enjoyed the local food. The only minus was the food comes slow so be prepared for it.

As with a few restaurants we visited in Laos, the Garden has a small menu and cooks food to order in an open kitchen right in front of you. Delicious food and a lovely ambience. Highly recommend

It's no fast food outlet, so slow down and enjoy the wonderful freshly prepared treats. How this guy makes a living is beyond me! It's just so good and so very inexpensive. Sure, it's a limited menu and you may have to be patient, but...it's well worthwhile. Enjoy.More

First impressions were good at this small restaurant. Nice place to sit, drinks order taken promptly. But it was all downhill from this point. No wine available so drinks with spirits ordered. One came very quickly, but it was about 20 minutes before the other...2 appeared. After about 40 minutes we realised our starter had not even begun to be cooked (small cooking area visible from seating area) so we paid for our drinks and left. Definitely not a proper restaurant. There was a lot of staff but only 1 person cooking. We can't recommend this as a place to have dinner.More

All very relaxed but very efficient. Top place. The espresso coffee comes...from Somphamit across the road , also very friendly and recomendable wuth nice clean and cheap bungalows on the river.More
