The owner of this restaurant/tour company across the street is dishonest and ripped us off. My friend booked a fishing tour for us; in hindsight I should have booked it myself since I have been living in Laos for 5 years and know proper behavior...from not. The owner paid his staff 30,000 kip to take us on a boat for a couple hours with junk fishing gear to a couple places where there was no fish. The staff clearly had no experience. He did not speak English either so I had to translate. That’s fine he didn’t speak EN, but we were charged 240,000 kip for this rubbish experience. We later found out that this same tour should not cost more than 100,000 kip. He is a slick talker and I want to let other people know that there are other really good choices in Don Khong than this guy. The service at the restaurant is quite poor as well, I should add. Very slow service (even by Lao standards!), screaming kids all over, higher priced than most. Food is not impressive for the price. There are several other very good options on the island. I will certainly not be back.More

The restaurant was fairly quiet at 7pm which is typical for the area . Folks seem to eat early. The only waiter was a teenager who was dressed in a dirty football and was very quiet, bordering on sullen. The menu was a bit of...a joke running to about 40 pages ! Quality not quantity . The food was ok. It’s hard not has a decent meal in Laos which doesn’t tickle your taste buds.More

Lao Long Restaurant was the only other restaurant we ate at. While lacking a river view, they make up with a few comfortable seating areas. We stuck with the basic noodle dishes and fruit shakes here which were quite good.

We were in Don Khon for a couple of days and visit Lao Long for lunch. It is one of the nicer looking meal venues. So much for looks as the service was appalling. The server took a long time to take our order then...disappeared for 30 minutes. When he reappeared with no food, we asked and soon was the reply. Quite a while longer the food arrived and was passable. This was Lao food, similar to Thai and should take about 5 minutes. The restaurant was not busy. Crazy. We saw other customers receive similar service. Ugh.More

We arrived at 7pm for dinner. Were served 1/2 plate at 9pm. - 'your food is ready in 5 minutes' said the owner at 8pm Went to see the kitchen by myself from the street to find a lone woman doing prety much nothing aka...working one wok at a time... While 20something people were waiting in the restaurant. Every guest were served with at least 1h delay for the lucky ones, and 1,5h mean. Food is ok at the most. I do not recommend at all.More

It looks alright from the outside. Good location and not too shabby. However this was NOT the case. The food was poor, the bread was wet and the mango shake was vile. The service was terrible. It took 25 minutes to get anyone’s attention and...there was one other table in at the time. A friend of mine was in the middle of asking one of the waiters if she could get a fresh mango shake as the one she had been given had a particularly unpleasant off taste, when the waiter turned to cat that was curled up next to our table and kicked it out of the restaurant and across the street, with considerable force. Then after grinning at our shocked faces he picked up another and threw it after it, laughing to his colleagues before snatching the shake and taking it over the only other guests table where he shoved it in the face of a man and forced him to take a sip without explanation before walking off smirking. The behaviour of that gentleman, who appears to also work in the tourist office opposite the restaurant, was disgraceful and quite frankly a little bit unnerving. I would not recommend this place to anyone.More

The food was fine but not amazing. There was big strips of ginger in the dish which were inedible but the flavour was okay and the dish was fine. Service was strangely poor. I was left standing at the entrance for five minutes and staff...seemed ready for a nap rather than service in the middle of the day. It was reasonably priced for the area but considering what you get, it should probably be a little cheaper.More

We kept coming back here as their food is simply of excellent quality. So much flavor! You should try their pumpkin burger (comes with some french fries). Next to that, it’s a nice place to spend some hours, watching people pass by. We had no...problems with the waiters on any occasion, but it’s true the it’s sometimes a bit hard to get the waiters attention. Remember, this is Lao PDR (Please Don’t Rush). The food comes trough quickly though. Would definitely recommend.More

This place is in a prime position on the right hand corner as you walk up from the boat dock.It is a large open-sided area with white tablecloths, a pleasing decor and a lounging area.I tried one or two other nearby eateries but kept coming...back here because i thought the food was of very good quality. Now for the bad bit! Dreadful service! The young waiter who seemed to be on duty all day had no English skills to speak of and was unable even to understand a request to pay the bill - another couple had to resort to waving their money in front of him in order to get him to understand! His mathematical skills were not always up to giving the correct change. The young waiter who came on in the evenings seemed to have a bit of English but not much! What is the point of employing people who have little or no English skills in a restaurant which is targetted at foreign visitors? Both waiters sometimes disappeared - off somewhere on their motorbikes or into the kitchen or maybe somewhere else. On one occasion, it was left to the lady from the kitchen to bring me my burger and chips (delicious) and she simply put the plate down in front of me and walked away, without knowing that sauces and tissues need to be provided as well. The boss was a bit older than the waiters but not much - he seemed to speak good English and would occasionally get involved - if you could get his attention - but he seemed to prefer to spend his time playing with his two young children, eating and chatting with friend/relatives or manning his travel agency desk. Perhaps he is unaware that customers in restaurants expect good service as well as good food. Because I wanted to eat the food here I was reduced to regarding the tragedy of the poor service as a comedy and inwardly laughing at it.More

This is a nice and clean family restaurant in Don Khone island, near the center of the small village. We had dinner for 3 people (stir fried morning glory with chicken, pepper and garlic pork -this was very good indeed-, pad thai with pork, with...water and a small Lao beer), and it was 112.000 kip in total, about 4 euros per person. Very young boys provide service in the tables. This is an excellent restaurant option in the island, much better than the one in the hotel.More

Lovely restaurant setting, close to the boat ramp. Unfortunately we were not that impressed with the meal itself though. Younger people were running the place, they were pleasant and professional, but the food wasn't very fresh or tasty. It was a quiet time to visiting...the island, so possibly the food is a lot better during peak times?More

Very nice room on the river front, at a good price for 80k a night. My only complaint was on the second night when a French lass moved into the room next door and because of the wooden floorboards it sounded like a heard of...elephants was passing nearby. I think she liked doing gymnastics at 4 am, which was kinda hard to sleep through... and yet she had the audacity to ask me to stop walking around later that day !More

Was recommended this restaurant. Sorry we went. Should have known when we saw two meals being sent back. The other couple we were eating with had both finished their meals and mine was still 10 mins out. I only had chicken kebabs that were on...their specials board out front. They came with chips that must have been reheated 3 times. I had not even ordered them. One rice did not turn up either. 90 mins to have a very simple meal. My husband refused to pay for my meal. Eat elsewhere. We were here two nights and had lovely meals in other places.More
