El Matador is off the beaten path. I suggest taking a taxi. The restaurant is located in a residential neighborhood. It has a beautiful outdoor patio in the back. The owner of the Establishment is semi-retired Matador and showed us his style while we were having dinner. You will find lots of local here.

For a restaurant with such strong reviews, it's Amazing how few cabbies knew it. That said, it was awesome. Service was super friendly and attentive. The food was excellent. We had the chateaubriand for two, the tuna, two orders of the octopus starter, the tuna carpaccio and all of the desserts. Nothing disappointed and the steak was outstanding. So was... More

Great food, great service, great setting.Pablo the owner and his talented staff make the Spanish saying,mi casa es su casa reality. The surroundings transport you back to a Spanish hacienda. All the menu offerings are superb ,and at reasonable prices. To use an old cliche a meal at El Matador should definitely be on your bucket list.

In our month in the Los Cabos area, we went to many restaurants---Mona Lisa(overrated), 7 Seas (microwaved food) Romeo and Julietta's (music way too loud)--just to mention a few. El Matador stands in a class by itself. Do not be put off by its out of the way location in San Jose del Cabo. It is worth finding. The elegant... More

Very much like walking into someone's home this quaint location with backyard outside seating is the Jewell of San Jose del Cabo. Great food, ambiance and the owner is present making it all happen including a demonstration of his past bull fighting skills. The Ted snapper was the best ! Great menu !

The restaurant is a very arduous job, you can earn little more or less money than in other businesses, but the real reward is to see the customers satisfied, thank you very much. More

This was our 9th visit to El Matador--always as the special treat on our family's visit. It has been a high point of each of our last 9 visits to San Jose, so we know the menu--everything is excellent; it just depends on what you like or feel like trying. Appetizers: We like the tuna carpaccio, the coconut shrimp and... More

We went for dinner here on a Monday night and had THE best dining experience of all in San Jose del Cabo. Starting with the ambience I can say that it was interesting, intimate and comfortable. The service was top notch from ALL staff and the matador stopped by our table twice. The food was absolutely incredible. We started with... More

We were sad when Damiana closed in downtown San Jose many years ago because it had that wonderful interior courtyard charm, super margaritas and the best seafood around. But now we finally have found a superb and perfect replacement in El Matador. The interior courtyard is classic, a wonderful outdoor garden with an excellent ambience, service, with outstanding Mexican fare... More

I was lucky enough to eat at Damiana, Ivan's, Pietro, Añuiti, Giorgio and some pioneering restaurants of that time, certainly El Matador has a little of each of them, we share the same feeling, thank you for your review and hope to see you soon, More

The food was excellent, the matador spoke to us, talked about his bullfighting experience. He even pulled out his cape and showed us his skills firsthand

Description
El Matador is the finest restaurant in San Jose, owned by a former Matador, Pablo Velez. It boasts Mediterranean Mexican dining. It is in a neighborhood next to the Nun's Hospital. Their Scallopine Marsala is to die for as well as the other items on the menu. Please add this restaurant to your list. I can't imagine why it hasn't been on there as we have been eating there for at least 3 or 4 years.
