Very hospitable charming pub sitting in the canal. A regular stop after a long walk. Staff friendly & helpful food always good. A must try!

We had a good lunch here, thought the food was lovely - but the entire experience was well and truly ruined when a member of bar staff clearly indicated to a group of people waiting for a table that ours was about to become free - just because we'd finished our food a couple of minutes earlier didn't mean we... We popped in spur of the moment and we were lucky to get a table.. they were really busy but service was still brilliant, i had rib eye steak and my husband had fish and chips. Both were brilliant. The peppercorn sauce was amazing and both were large portions that left us stuffed. We love coming here and we will... More
Visited the Admiral Nelson whilst on a canal holiday. the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful (I was on crutches due to a broken leg, and they willingly carried my drinks to the table etc.. without even being asked). They found us a really nice (and roomy - neccesscary when you've got a cast on!) table for four. The food... More
Our first visit to the Admiral was very pleasant. It's in a lovely location tucked away down a windy lane sitting on the canal with outdoor seating to watch the boats on their journey through the locks.Staff were smiley and attentive. Food was good but I feel it is overpriced. Sandwiches start at £7 with an extra £3.50 for a... More
In the past have had excellent meals here but this one was a disappointment. My friend had fish chips – no problem there but a bit steep at £14. However I had Coconut Goat curry with poppadums’ – now being a curry you would expect it to come with rice. What arrived was a small portion of curry with half... More
We read the reviews, phoned up to book and as we were on a boat were able to moor close. Food was fantastic, chips were excellent, ordered a pie, sirloin steak and a children's chicken goujons. All were fantastic. The sirloin steak was so tender, the pie was lovely, and my son loved the goujons. Only thing was, we couldn't... More
Visited this pub recently ,lovely spot right by the canal tucked away from the main village. The building is old so layout is not overly spacious but seating area for dining is reasonable. The Buffet food was Superb, home cooked quiche, cold meats, salads, jackets & gorgeous bread with a cheese board. A lot of it & presented very nicely.Without doubt one of the Best buffet... More
Our first evening stop on our canal trip from Napton to Milton Keynes. We were advised to avoid the other pubs in Braunston as their food was not up to much (can't vouch for that as obviously haven't been to them!). When I saw the menu I was a bit disappointed: home-made pie (none left); burger and chips; ham, egg... More
Lovely helpful staff, great food and very pleasant surroundings. Lovely for a summer visit to sit outside or very cosy in the winter.
Thank you for taking the time to review The Admiral Nelson, and hopefully see you again soon. Kind regards Pam More
