Do not go to this pub for food !!! Unfortunately this review does not come close to how bad it actually was. Only a third full yet the organisation to get drinks and order food was painful. We waited a good half an hour for...drinks, we actually saw them sitting on the bar for at least 10mins. we ordered 2 prawn and avocado cocktails, they turned up with no avocado. We queried this and was brought up a small ( and I mean small ) jug with a few pieces in it. When we said that we had two, we were told 3 pieces of avocado each. The amount of avocado was at least one thin slice cut into 3 ! We ordered a kids large pasta with tomato and was told ( once he had tried to put it into the till ) that they only have a kids small pasta however because of that she could order extras (like garlic bread, chips and peas) so we ordered extras. We had to ask for cutlery, napkins. Even when the prawn cocktails arrived we had to ask for spoons. We seriously considered at that point to cancel our mains and leave, unfortunately we didn’t. People were coming in after us and they had run out of loads of stuff. Half an hour later they came up and said they had actually ran out of pasta. She then had to choose something else. The mains arrived and again we were all sitting there with our dinners and had to ask again for cutlery. One had the signature beef and ale pie, 4 tiny pieces of beef the size of 1p. Three trio roast dinners came up and omg the mash actually had a skin on it, not one of us would actually even try it. The kids meal turned up with peas, garlic bread and pizza !! The serving staff were unbelievably bad, the food was unbelievably bad, the front of the pub is probably the best part of this pub/restaurant. We heard one of the staff say to the kitchen staff that ‘ you should come out here and see what we have to put up with’ We grudgingly paid and couldn’t possibly leave a tip, we just wanted to get out as soon as possible. Wasn’t worth the journey from St Helens in the pouring rain and flooding.More

Having driven past this beautiful looking pub a number of times over the last couple of days, I decided to make a reservation for dinner this evening, Sunday 25th July with my family. We arrived and were advised by a front of house staff member...that all roasts were sold out, as well as all steaks, with the exception of rump steak. When we expressed our disappointment, this staff member advised us that she keeps telling the chef to order more food as they keep running out. However, we decided to stay, sat down and looked at the menu. Unfortunately there wasn’t a great deal left to choose from and we therefore decided to leave. When we advised the same staff member of our decision, she was very apologetic and embarrassed. I replied that it’s not her fault at all and clearly the management and chefs need to work together to ensure they order adequate food. I would stress that this front of house staff member was lovely and was obviously just trying to do her job in difficult circumstances. However, this poor lady is very much in the firing line of any disgruntled customers whilst the management are nowhere to be seen. Clearly, as the old saying goes, do not judge a book by it’s cover. This is a really lovely looking pub but I do wish I’d have checked reviews beforehand and saved myself a wasted journey. Having left, we went to the Wetherspoon’s in Newport which has been excellent. Greene King, I would strongly suggest you give serious consideration as to how this establishment is being managed and take the necessary action. It will only be a matter of time before you lose all customers as a result of these reviews.More

Jobs worth on door.A tab is compulsory as it would seem all customers are dishonest and might do a runner. Don’t normally have to pay in advance. Food tasted alright but a slice of bacon is Not a gammon steak

I think there was a set Sunday dinner menu that was cheaper than buying individually
