The flavour of the gelatos was very good, but it's the first gelato I've ever had that was as FROZEN as this was. I've had a lot of gelato while in Italy and found that it was alot softer there in the old country. There are a lot of old photos on the wall of the family that started this... More

This place serves huge portion and tasty ice-cream. Mind you, it doesn't taste as rich and milky as the gelato in Northern Italy, but it's very good on its own - especially if you're eating it as an after-dinner dessert!

One of the best gelato places in Vancouver. My spouse and I think it's better than one that has a higher profile. Five dollars gets you a generous one scoop with two flavours (if you want). Stracciatella is a classic Italian flavour, and theirs is excellent. And chocolate fig was a flavour I had never come upon, and it was... More

Been here several times whenever I am in the area. Lots of delicious choices to choose from. Pay first and then sample/order. Could be a lineup. Limited seating in the store.

I'm not big on gelato, but this place is amazing, and I've been converted. I'm a chocolate fan and they don't disappoint! Creamy and delicious. Yesterday I tried pink grapefruit and the flavour and tang were amazing. They also have some very yummy looking pies and cheesecakes. If you're a visitor to Vancouver, Commercial Drive is a great way to... More

This was a busy little ice-cream parlour. Classic and not-so-classic flavours of high-quality sorbets and gelatos. I also saw some nice-looking ice-cream cakes.

If you are a tourist on Commercial Drive, you are very likely to find yourself near the corner of East 1st Ave and Commercial. Look for the mountains--that's north. Go to the east side of commercial and walk north 'till you come across Dolce Amore. If you're a local you know all this--bear with with me. So--you want some really... More

this gelato shop might sell the best gelato in ALL of North America, I'm not exaggerating. Annoyed I only discovered it the last night we were there (3 nights!) or else I would have gone every night!

The gelato at Dolce Amore is as good as any my wife and I have ever had. We have had gelato many times in Italy and the gelato at Dolce Amore matches anything we tasted in Italy. The price is reasonable for gelato - a single scoop (waffle cone, sugar cone or cup) is about $4.50 and a double scoop... More

Staying in Commercial Drive

Neighbourhood Profile
Commercial Drive
Commercial Drive, also called "The Drive," comprises of twelve sauntering blocks of modest and unfussy counter-culture. Straddling the line between sophisticated and unadorned, it is favoured by students, artists, writers, designers, and start-ups, and suffused throughout with a healthy off-beat counter-culture. The kind of neighbourhood which well-springs thought-revolutions and has the odd bit of self-aware graffiti, Commercial Drive has resisted gentrification in favor of continuing to build a thriving den of affordable multiculturalism. Once known as Vancouver's "Little Italy," it has also been the immigration point for Guatemalans, Hondurans, and Portuguese to the city. The resulting hodgepodge makes for poetry readings in espresso cafes, social debates in early-open bakeries, and eco-activism posters pinned up in the many multi-ethnic markets in the area. Commercial Drive is where you go to feel like a local, and if you have them, bring the kids – The Drive has a number of bookshops, toy stores, and attractions to get them involved too.
