Great quiet place to have a coffee or lunch (Fish Soup is fantastic and not spicy being a POrtuguese cook) and watch good European soccer, specially Barcelona or Real Madrid or even English Premier League games.

"The best cappucino in town" is written in front of you, when you see this place. And that's true. An authentic italian cappucino, in a portugese bar. The latte is also amazing. And the staff friendly.

This is the old authentic Cafe prior to gentrification of Commercial Drive. If you want an experience of multiculturalism, queer friendly, laid back Europian style coffee and eats, then come to Joes Cafe. It's rough exterior belies the warmth and inclusivity inside. Watch soccer, drink coffee or beer, portugeses bun sandwiches (yum!!) and join the cheers of soccer watching or... More

Joe's Cafe is truly a relic from another era, although you could hardly say the place has weathered the years that well, not that it was ever posh. If you want a view into the Drive's proto-ethnic underbelly from the days of yore, this is the place to be. It seems that Joe himself and his cohorts haven't changed an... More

Delicious and beautifully presented cappuccino and other coffee drinks. Right in the heart of the "Drive", this coffee shop offers pool tables and lots of character. The staff were awesome, and moved a table and chairs outdoors for us. This place is old and I bet they have stories to tell.

This is a local greasy spoon that isn't greasy. Great breakfasts and lunches. There are a few located around the city and they all serve the same good quality food.

Nestled in what appears to be Little Portugal, it is straight-forward kind of place. The service is friendly, and the food is good. A couple of small tables outside afford you some view of the goings-on on Commercial, a busy street mind you.

Had breakfast here and it was delicious. The staff were friendly and the atmosphere was nice. Unsophisticated and simple but food is great. It was packed when I went. Try their breakfast burrito...and don't miss the hot sauce.

Wow! Alright, the atmosphere looks as if it's owned by the Sopranos. The staff is a bunch of retired Italian guys. They are loud, they are funny, and they can be rude. THEY LOVE SOCCER and almost everytime I've frequented this place the TV is on FULL BLAST with sports. Here you will find a lot of super friendly older... More

Staying in Commercial Drive

Neighbourhood Profile
Commercial Drive
Commercial Drive, also called "The Drive," comprises of twelve sauntering blocks of modest and unfussy counter-culture. Straddling the line between sophisticated and unadorned, it is favoured by students, artists, writers, designers, and start-ups, and suffused throughout with a healthy off-beat counter-culture. The kind of neighbourhood which well-springs thought-revolutions and has the odd bit of self-aware graffiti, Commercial Drive has resisted gentrification in favor of continuing to build a thriving den of affordable multiculturalism. Once known as Vancouver's "Little Italy," it has also been the immigration point for Guatemalans, Hondurans, and Portuguese to the city. The resulting hodgepodge makes for poetry readings in espresso cafes, social debates in early-open bakeries, and eco-activism posters pinned up in the many multi-ethnic markets in the area. Commercial Drive is where you go to feel like a local, and if you have them, bring the kids – The Drive has a number of bookshops, toy stores, and attractions to get them involved too.
