Tiny little place. Didn't seem very well taken care of and was a bit messy behind the bar. Washrooms and the rest of the place were in decent condition though. I was talking to someone whom I think is the manager. He was more interested in watching Hellboy which was on a TV screen in the far corner. Not that... More

Having spent the last two weeks frequenting every craft ale and micro brewery outlet in western canada, tgis was the best with a fantastic range of beers in the great location of gastown.

A really atmospheric bar with a great choice of beers on the beer menu. The waitress was very knowledgeable about the range of beers and spent some time explaining the range to ensure we received a beer to suit our taste. She gave us a few small samples before we decided. If you enjoy good craft beer this is really... More

As other reviewers commented, the Dine Out experience here was a disappointment (similar to Salt tasting room review actually). Remarkably, many choices of beers were unavailable. Also, the food selection was poor. The food itself was okay, nothing great. Kale salad seems to be de rigeur in Vancouver restaurants these days, some imagination would be nice. Service was friendly, and... More

Enjoyed some fine beers at Bitter. Friendly, helpful staff and a great beer menu. Can't comment on the food as I didn't have any. I'll be going back to try some.

A group of us went to the Bitter Tasting Room for Dine Out. The main entree was 3 tacos. The tacos were smaller than my palm, with a tiny dollop of filling on them. Then when the waitress came back to check on us shortly after serving us our food, she had the audacity to say, "oh, you're all done?!".... More

We visited Bitter in Jan. 2014 for Dine Out. They were out of quite a few beers. They had VERY FEW food choices and they ran out of 2 of the 4 types of tacos on offer, the ONLY main food dish on offer!! The soup was good, as was mousse, but to be out of beer and tacos was... More

Using the term "pub" or even its own chosen description "tasting room" doesn't suit Bitter. It is an old fashioned bar, the kind that used to have signs saying "Ladies and Escorts". The location is definitely dodgy -- pretty much at Ground Zero for the downtown eastside. There is definitely lots of character to the neighbourhood. The decor is early... More

Four of us were there on a Friday night i was busy but our server found us a table fast. The beer selection is good some nice drafts on tap but a bit short on the Hoppy IPA's. Good bottle selection. The food was not very good i ordered the DEBRECINER which was 5 cocktail sausages in a pot of... More

We went here as part of Dine Out Vancouver, and had a great time. The food was delicious with home-cooked feeling - nothing fancy here, just hearty and tasty. The selection of beer is excellent, although the prices are rather high. The service was exceptional - friendly, attentive, knowledgeable. We probably won't go here again for a meal, but will... Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Chinatown
With the recent exodus of massive new building projects hitting the neighbourhood, Chinatown; which has always been one of the city's most vibrant areas; is even more buzzing and buoyant than ever before. Playing host to some of the city's best pan-Asian cuisine, from fusion food to traditional home-cooking, Chinatown has remained faithful to its roots as a space which clambers with shop signs and welcomes diners to the table. More that that, it has a hip experimental vibe to it, with trendy pop-ups and catchall market shops. The biggest of Canada's Chinatowns, it is also home to an expansive Chinese garden whose manicured grounds inspire and delight, its ponds and pagodas drawing walkers in for an stroll. Take in the red streetlights, the playful awnings, and the upbeat air that suffuse this area.
