We've eaten here a couple of times. The tapas format really adds up to $$$, but we've found the food quality to be very good and the type of dishes offered fairly adventurous. It's always been busy when we've visited Vancouver, but we've managed to get a table each time. We will definitely return.

We brought our son and his girlfriend here for dinner. The food was all very flavourful and tasty. It is tapas style so even the main dishes are small portions. If you like tapas style, you will love this place. The rabbit was very, very, delicious and I definitely recommend it. And no, it does not taste like chicken!! The... More

Have been here more than a couple times, and have tried several others around the city (with disappointment), thus we keep returning. Sure, there are occasional misses, but for the most part, lots of hits. Drinks and service are really good, and be prepared for a lineup if you don't arrive at opening. This go around, chicharones (awesomely crisp with... More

There is a good menu that rotates frequently depending on what is in season. My daughter recommended going there. She was, however slightly disappointed that a favourite cauliflower dish was no longer offered. A great substitute was suggested by the very helpful server and we ordered a variety of vegetarian and non vegetarian sharing plates. The desserts were quite lovely... More

After 2 years living in Vancouver, we finally got to go to Espana, and it was quite a disappointment. Despite a very good service, the food was horrible. The ceviche seemed to be not marinated enough, the fish was still very raw, almost a sashimi. The chorizo toast had everything but chorizo, and the chicharon was just salty. The place... More

Small in venue size, large in food selection, Espana offers a supreme dining experience. The place bustles with people yet conversations from neighbouring tables do not intrude. You create your own bubble and then simply enjoy the fine fare and courteous service. We started with the savoury smashed avocado on toast, followed by the delicious daily paella -- which featured... We usually try not to repeat restaurants on a trip, but made an exception for Espana. Ate at the bar both times...once out of necessity (busy Saturday night) and the second time because we just prefer the buzz. Generous tapas portion (4 fed two of us very well) with daily specials that seemed well worth trying. Lots of use of... More

This is not a place to visit for a quiet, romantic dinner. It's busy, loud and you will be rubbing elbows with other patrons. But that's part of the fun when visiting this funky and upscale tapas bar. Cheerful waitpersons, excellent dishes and a good wine selection. We have been there three times and had to wait each time before... More

I went to Espana for evening cocktails and tapas and we were very pleasantly surprised. Service was funny and personable, the food was FANTASTIC! I would definitely come here again. I also ended up seeing a few friends who now live in Vancouver, I guess we must have excellent taste!

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
A hodgepodge of landscapes, the West End combines verdant gardens and blocky modern architecture, with Victorian bits and Edwardian bobs in between. It is a paradise for takeout food, take-away coffee, and perhaps incongruously, some of Vancouver's most languid lines of beachfront. English Bay and Sunset Beach invite swimmers, strollers, and picnic-lovers to take in dusk settling over the water, or to jog along with the sunrise, offering breathtaking views at any time of day. The West End merges together so many looks and flavors probably because it functions a hub: its the leafy pit-stop between nightlife and entertainment venues along Davie Street, and the shopping paradise that is Robson Street, offering visitors beautiful parkland to rest on, and quick, easy food to re-fuel with in between ventures.
