Sometimes Greek food seems to be one of those things that gets imitated poorly, but this place really did have great Greek food! Complimentary bread & oil started our meal & the flaming cheese was a tasty & entertaining highlight! If, like us, you find it hard to decide what to order from the menu - the Mediterranean platter was... More

Saloniki Taverna is a nice Greek Restaurant in Vancouver. I had a nice roast lamb and my wife settled for chicken souvlaki, while another couple who came with us did settle for some calamari and hummus. All the food was good and the prices reasonable. Recommendable.

Nice atmosphere, good service, good food. We came when they weren't busy but it filled up as we finished. Food came in promptly. Ordered a two person platter, excellent! Lamb was great, ditto potato, all great! Friendly staff. We came here partly because they were practically the only Greek restaurant open on a Monday night.

I have to say I was expecting the lamb that be great and it was. But the surprise was the Greek potato! Amazing. The wait staff dropped hot bread with oil and balsamic to start. Lovely wine. The meal came quick. Over all very enjoyable. My only recommendation would be to not sit close to the door.

We have a small family, we often come to this place. Food is very good, service is friendly and ambience is actually good. Relatively inexpensive. They also have parking right in front of restaurant. Food has a good variety, predominantly Greek, fast service. Definitely recommend this , an unknown jewel in heart of commercial drive and is not busy either.

This was recommended to us by a friend, who had been before, liked it and wanted to return. We opted to try it out and as first timers, can vouch it's a great place to dine, with excellent food, good wine and beer selection, warm and friendly service. Although not in our neighbourhood, it was worth the drive across town... More

We easily got a seat for two (with a street view) on Saturday evening, and I was quickly enjoying a delicious draught Kolsch beer. The $16 Spanaki chicken breast came smothered in a tasty spinach topping plus rice, potato and salad on the side. The $14 large Salonki Salata with four grilled prawns was another good choice - big and... More

We had lamb and it was delicious tender and nicely presented. Waitress could have been more friendly and seemed a little grumpy. Had to go find how to pay the bill. Read some so so reviews on the food but we loved it.

This restaurant left a really bad taste my mouth and I didn't even get to eat their food. I called to put through a large takeout order for 15 people a week in advance. The man who I spoke with was great and gave a wonderful price. However, he didn't even ask for my name or phone # until I... More

Staying in Commercial Drive

Neighbourhood Profile
Commercial Drive
Commercial Drive, also called "The Drive," comprises of twelve sauntering blocks of modest and unfussy counter-culture. Straddling the line between sophisticated and unadorned, it is favoured by students, artists, writers, designers, and start-ups, and suffused throughout with a healthy off-beat counter-culture. The kind of neighbourhood which well-springs thought-revolutions and has the odd bit of self-aware graffiti, Commercial Drive has resisted gentrification in favor of continuing to build a thriving den of affordable multiculturalism. Once known as Vancouver's "Little Italy," it has also been the immigration point for Guatemalans, Hondurans, and Portuguese to the city. The resulting hodgepodge makes for poetry readings in espresso cafes, social debates in early-open bakeries, and eco-activism posters pinned up in the many multi-ethnic markets in the area. Commercial Drive is where you go to feel like a local, and if you have them, bring the kids – The Drive has a number of bookshops, toy stores, and attractions to get them involved too.
