As the title states appearances are deceiving! This is the best place for breakfast and just coffee and a muffin. The muffins are divine as everything is made on location. The breakfast is delicious, it is not a vegan place, but more for people who are OvaLacto Vegetarians. An example is their "Basic" eggs, hash, toast $5.80. The toast is... More

Cafe Deux Soleils was not what I expected. This was a place to EAT! With a French name (yes, a play on words but still, a name that was in French) I thought there would be pastries to choose from but for the most part, this is a place to do some serious eating. Which, usually, would not be a... More

I decided since I was in town to meet up with a former coworker/friend. We decided to meet at this place and I was not aware that it was a vegetarian restaurant. As I was waiting for my friend, I had a chance to look over the huge chalk board on the wall with several options for breakfast and lunch... More

It's the only place since I'm in Vancouver where I feel at home. You can find excellent cheap breakfast every day. The staff is friendly, and you can meet families, students, seniors. A good mix. It can be crowded during the weekend, but it'a a really nice place to go. And best decaf americano!!

There were three of us for breakfast, but only tables for two. "May we slide these two together?" I asked. The server said no. I looked at him incredulously. The distance was less than two feet. I asked again. He shook his head. He left menus on both tables and departed. I slid it anyway...and no one complained. We ordered... More

We stopped by on Saturday for brunch and had the special. It was eggs with tomato marinated with garlic and basil, hash browns and toast. So delicious.

This restaurant was recommended by a young student who knew we were exploring Vancouver and wanted to see all its various neighbourhoods. It is in what was once little Italy and is now a lower rent area in transition with a lot of emerging food options. This is an authentic old style alternative coffee house with greasy breakfasts and granola... More

Very unfriendly & rude service, guy behind the counter told me to sit outside with my stroller (folds up and fits under any table) before I even had a chance to look at the menu. I do not recommend this place.

This morning I walk into this joint with my 18 year old for the first time. What do I hear playing, but my favourite Anderson Paak track, "Am I Wrong"!!!!! Wow. Props to the track master :) Anyways, there's a bit of a line, but that's fine because we have to read the giant colourful board of breakfast options. We... More

We were looking for a simple breakfast place and discovered Cafe Deux Soleils. We enjoyed the vibrant atmosphere, great breakfast menu options and wonderful coffee selections. The cashier was okay but the person who brought our food was thoughtful enough to wipe down our table. Cafe Americano was good.

Staying in Commercial Drive

Neighbourhood Profile
Commercial Drive
Commercial Drive, also called "The Drive," comprises of twelve sauntering blocks of modest and unfussy counter-culture. Straddling the line between sophisticated and unadorned, it is favoured by students, artists, writers, designers, and start-ups, and suffused throughout with a healthy off-beat counter-culture. The kind of neighbourhood which well-springs thought-revolutions and has the odd bit of self-aware graffiti, Commercial Drive has resisted gentrification in favor of continuing to build a thriving den of affordable multiculturalism. Once known as Vancouver's "Little Italy," it has also been the immigration point for Guatemalans, Hondurans, and Portuguese to the city. The resulting hodgepodge makes for poetry readings in espresso cafes, social debates in early-open bakeries, and eco-activism posters pinned up in the many multi-ethnic markets in the area. Commercial Drive is where you go to feel like a local, and if you have them, bring the kids – The Drive has a number of bookshops, toy stores, and attractions to get them involved too.
