I've been to most Indian restaurants in the lower mainland and this one is definitely at the top of the list. The selection of dishes is unique compared to many other Indian restaurants and the prices are very reasonable. The atmosphere is nice and low key and the staff is very friendly, accommodating and helpful.

They are serious when it comes to their claim of the best butter chicken. This sauce is divine- I've actually not had it with the chicken, but rather with fish instead and it was delicious. Other dishes fairly standard but also good quality (eg pakora, naan). Haven't eaten in, only take out but it's definitely a Kitsilano favourite of ours!

The food is really delicious and authentic. I normally order for take out as I like to eat my curry on the couch watching TV but the restaurant itself is very nice on the inside, if you are looking to eat out.

I've been going to the Indian Oven for years and often wondered how authentic their food was. However, recently I invited a South Asian friend to lunch, who found the kitchen to be absolutely top drawer. The restaurant is usually not that busy, you won't need reservations most nights. You would think that Indian Oven's location at 4th and Maple... More

They claim to have the best butter chicken - and I would have to agree. It's a very nice location on a second floor, so if you have an outside or window table, you have a great view of the 4th st action. We both ordered the butter chicken which comes with Naan and rice. The flavor of the butter... More

We were headed to Las Margarita's (Mexican) but decided at the last minute to go kitty corner for Indian fare instead. We were famished so we pigged out on shrimp pakora, Tandoori chicken, curry prawns, naan with mango ice cream to finish. It was a very enjoyable dinner. We were informed by our server that the restaurant also delivers to... More

The highlights for our family were the whole Tandoori chicken, the chicken marsala, and the eggplant. Everything was very flavorful and spiced to our preference.

I found the food and service to be mediocre. I believe food is a bit overpriced for what you get. The lunch menu is pretty different from the regular menu which you specifically have to ask for.

The Indian Oven is a well run establishment with authentic Indian choices on the menu. The butter chicken (my go to ) is actually unbelievable and the serving size you get with the rice is perfect. Their rice is cooked to perfection by the way. Handily located right off 4th ave makes for great take out or dine in. Absolutely... More

Staying in Kitsilano

Neighbourhood Profile
Kitsilano
Kitsilano is one of Vancouver's most transformative neighbourhoods. With a long history of coffee culture and poetry readings, its days of flower children and buskers may be long-gone, but not without leaving their mark on the number of organic restaurants and fair-trade cafes in the area. At the centre of Kitsilano ("Kits" for short) the almost idyllic expanse of Kits Beach offers the opportunity for a relaxed afternoon of beach volleyball or sunbathing. Along with the beachfront, nearby public pools and trendy street-beats have driven up the homeowners prices, making it a haven for stylish home goods stores, from design and furniture, to supplies and appliances. The multitude of both families and public spaces also make it a happening neighbourhood in the summer, when festivals and fairs take to Kits' streets.
