Went to this location of Guu in Vancouver with friends for supper. Great staff with the usual shout out in Japanese as you enter. Sat by the window, a bit drafty, ordered a bunch of plates of appetizers and they were all good! Some were so good we ordered another plate! We needed help from our server to order since... More

We went there for supper, no reservation. We were able to get a table. The staff was very friendly, and explained the menu. Service was good. We very much enjoyed the food, good serving sizes and reasonable prices. The tables were a bit too close together, which made conversation a little difficult. I definitely would come back.

We were luckily to get a table at 730 PM with no reservations. A table cancelled before us so we immediately grabbed a spot. The restaurant is very popular as it filled up almost immediately. We ordered cheese bibimbap, sea urchin over rice which were all served on clay pots. We also got black cod and spicy squid which was delicious... More

This restaurant came highly recommended. The food was incredible and I will thoroughly recommend the black cod and the octopus balls. However, communications with our server was challenging as his English was poor. This in turn meant he was not overly attentive so it took an eternity to get his attention and then to get what we had ordered !

I always search the place I want to go for a meal, Otokomae seems fine on all the platforms, so I tried. The food was not as exciting and the bartender can not make a glass of old fashion...I wouldn't say it's horrible but I may should have lowered my expectation...

This place is extremely popular and I recommend that you make reservations. We were a group of 9 without reservations and the only reason we were seated was because we arrived before the dinner crowd showed up and we were told that we would only have our table for 2 hours. Izakaya restaurants offer small plates that are meant to... More

We were a big group and some of us were coming by Skytrain, so we chose Guu Otokomae. It is very convenient being close to Seabus as well. We had a table right beside a large open window looking over the Water St., and it was very nice. All of the food that we ordered came in a timely manner... More

My partner and I visit a lot of different restaurants as we love to experience new food, new atmospheres. We have been to the Guu on Robson and we loved it. However this one we were very disappointed. The service was terrible and the food was okay but not exciting. The main thing was the service. It took over 15... More

Enjoyable and unique dinner at Guu. Great atmosphere and nice as many of the main dishes could be shared among your group. Try the Salmon with 7 friends (for something unique) and the Mushroom Cheese Bibimbap in a hot stone bowl, very delicious. Service was a bit on the slow side but no problem if you're not in a rush... This place has a great atmosphere, with waiters shouting to each other in Japanese, and the busy restaurant buzzing with conversation. The food was excellent, particularly the chicken kara age. It is also very reasonably priced for a pretty classy restaurant. Can't wait to go again.

Staying in Gastown

Neighbourhood Profile
Gastown
A visit to Gastown is like turning back the clock and stepping into a bygone era. With the distinction of being Vancouver's oldest neighborhood, the many plaques that stud the cobbled streets of Gastown tell the story of its colorful past, giving Vancouver's history a more lively presence here than anywhere else. Having been originally founded around a popular worker's saloon, it's no wonder that today some of Vancouver's best micro-breweries, creative cocktail joints, and corner bars can be found in this area. Classical charm suffuses its many vintage boutiques and the brick-built structures that an army of creative professionals call home.
