Having had a dismal experience several years ago, after many many years of excellent experiences, we decided to go back and see if anything had changed. The place looks much better, but it has really lost the olde British feel. The food was fine - the quiche was fine, the Welsh rarebit, fine. Sparse tea offerings. A very friendly and... More

I haven't been here for years after my eggs benedict hollandaise made me seriously wonder if they had inadvertently used chicken gravy. I love the little building and heard over the past couple of years it has new owners so decided to give it another try. First the decor and service is very good. It is much cleaner and more... More

We stopped in for a late lunch. Some of our group had the high tea which they raved about. I had the quiche and my husband had the rarebit which were both average. It was pretty busy for the 2 waitresses but we had a nice window seat and overall a pleasant visit.

My granddaughter and I have been checking out Hi Tea in several restaurants in the Victoria area as a way to explore the city and to have some fun together while she attends university. Tea at the James Bay Tea House is just the regular bagged teas you can get in the grocery stores. And... They forgot about us! We... More

Have had lunch here overtime we visit Victoria. Always a nice atmosphere in a quaint old building. Staff are very courteous and attentive. The meals have usually been good to excellent. Although the special - a soup and sandwich - that you would expect to be good was a little dried out. Not quite what we usually get. There were... More

We have visited the James Bay tea room many times and continue to enjoy the experience. It is in a good location and very reasonably priced.

Unfortunately, we arrived just after 3:15 to be told we had to be out by 4 as the carpet cleaner was coming in. So we were able to just have a tea and scone - both were lovely.

Tea menu with many choices Tea served in dainty little cups in individual patterns. 3 tiers of finger foods. My favourite was cheese scone with cream cheese and lox. Assortment of sweets as well. Too much to finish in one sitting.

Just had a lovely lunch with my dad at the James Bay Tea Room. We had the soup of the day (potato bacon) and shared a clubhouse sandwich all which were very tasty. I had a pot of herbal tea which came in a sweet little tea cozy. Nice to warm my hands with as the place was quite chilly... More

Sooooo good!! At a third of the price for tea at the Empress Hotel, this tea room came highly recommended by the hotel, locals, etc. Staff was gracious and helpful. If you want a great high tea experience without paying a lot, check this place out.
