Had one piece fish and chips. Fish was fresh and the fries were well done. Delicious coleslaw! Highly recommend it to anyone in Glace Bay or Cape Breton.

We were 7, and had mainly appys and drinks. I was intrigued by the greek pasta and was not disappointed. It was outstanding, as were the tai chicken bites. Nachos were good, but my wife found her hot wings way too salty. She couldn't finish...them. Overall the service was excellent, the place was packed but we were never left wanting. The music was absolutely outstanding- 2 young local guys with guitars. They played a little bit of everything, even had the girls dancing in their seats! The music was not overpowering, you could still carry on a conversation. Overall a great evening out!More
My husband and I had dinner at Talo last night. Such a good time! The food was excellent, great music and the staff treated us royally. We already made plans to return again next weekend!
Sometimes they get it right, and the dining experience is enjoyable. It very much seems to depend on who is working. My partner cannot eat egg or meat for religious reasons (Hindu) and previously we enjoyed Talo, as their veggie burger doesn’t have egg, and...they will sometimes pan fry fries for him. This time, unfortunately they put mayo on his burger, which ended up making him very sick throughout the night - he didn’t realize until a couple of bites in that there was mayo. It also took about 45 minutes for our food to arrive, on a very quiet night. When we brought the mayo/egg issue up to the server, she was very dismissive. She offered no reparations, I.e., new burger, reduction in bill, apology. I see all the reviews touting how allergy friendly it is - I’d give it a miss if you have an allergy. I find the service very inconsistent, and clearly their adherence to dietary restrictions is unimportant to them.More
So finally got to have lunch here and as a party of 4 we were not disappointed. Mussels, FANTASTIC, Tomato/cucumber salad, GOOD, Grilled Vegetable Goat Cheese Salad, SO GOOD, Monte Crisco sandwich GREAT,Steak Sandwich, very good, Bruschetta, AMAZING. This is an amazing place to eat....The food is cooked TO PERFECTION. You can tell the owners take pride. My question though, is if you take such pride in serving such great food, why do you not have great coffee (may be only a little thing) people love their coffee, and it was very disappointing that all 3 of us agreed, you need to up your coffee and maybe introduce special coffee, espresso maybe, or just a really great cup of coffee. Sorry I couldn’t give you 5 stars. All in all though, give this place a try, but don’t order the coffee until they perfect the art of coffee making ( i think they forgot to add the coffee)More
I had the pleasure of eating at Talo twice in 2 weeks, and I loved it. It’s a cozy, intimate spot, with great staff and fantastic food. I enjoyed the Trio, as well as, the Butternut Squash Ravioli...they were both amazing and I’d recommend them...to everyone. I’m anxious to try their Gnocchi as well, but it’s been sold out each time...so I guess that means it’s really good. With a great location, across the street from the century old municipal theatre, it’s great for an evening out with friends and family.More
Went to this retaurant twice this summer, and both times , I was NOT disappointed. I really enoyed the food and service there.
A good experience for the whole family, including a vegetarian who’s lactose and gluten intolerant and a picky preteen. The server was patient and helped us each find something to eat. We were all happy with our meals. We all loved the avocado fries!!
Talo is such a great find in the Glace Bay area. Their menu is seasonal, keeps some classic favorites but always has something fresh and new. The desserts are baked in store and are delectable. The space is beautiful and trendy whether it is to...join your friends for brunch or to have a dessert and glass of wine while listening to local music.More
Amazing food and great staff! They have fresh seafood which is to die for! The staff are knowledgeable and always pleasant!
The breakfast generally is good but this last visit left alot to be desired. The waffles were obviously store bought, extremely sugary and the menu stated maple syrup. We double checked with staff and were informed it would be table syrup. Good thing we asked...otherwise you wouldn't have know til after you ordered. My basic breakfast came with french fries instead of hash brown and my eggs looked like they had been cooked in a pan previously used for bacon? They were brown instead of white color. I've had better here so hopefully not indicative of a change. The lunches are good and always good coffee.More
Hi there, Thanks for taking the time to share your feedback and we’re sorry your last experience with us wasn’t great. It is true that our waffles are not homemade. I will look into the other issues you raised and will make adjustments. Hope we...More
This restaurant has a nice clean attractive decor, reasonably priced and excellent food! It situated on Commercial Street in Glace Bay which is the main downtown street. At times there is evening entertainment
We were greeted and promptly brought to our table! The decor has changed and improved. The menu has also changed with the new cook. Our meals were tasty but we waited for a very l-o-n-g time to receive our meals! The waiter was very pleasant...but he had so many tables to deal with. The hostess (owner I was told) could have poured the water, checked on other beverages, etc. but she did nothing but sit up front after seating people. Helping with the above would have allowed the pleasant server to deal with delivery food.More
I woke up in Sydney to a blinding snowstorm in April, and only had that day to visit Louisburg. I took a chance and was surprised the rental managed the unplowed roads. I was the only visitor at the fortress - which thoroughly annoyed some...Parks Canada staff hoping to leave work early on a Friday. After leaving Louisburg, the storm subsided – so, I very slowly navigated the poor road conditions on ‘the scenic route’ along the coast to Glace Bay. Once there, I needed a treat and found it at Talo Cafébar. By then, it was mid-afternoon – and, I sorely needed . . . . . that perfect Americano, the very tasty chowder, and the yummy haddock tacos. The cheesecake special was the perfect finish. I don’t normally eat a large lunch – but that meal was so good, it changed my attitude about the rest of the day – so, when I returned to Sydney, instead of turning south to the safety of well-groomed highways, I was ready to turn north to the Highlands in all their winter splendour. Fortunately, the skies had cleared and the views were marvelous. That wasn’t a great idea because it was dark before I descended into Chéticamp – but, if Talo hadn’t lifted my spirits, I would have missed a memorable adventure that day and the next.More
Food is great, they always offer great specials and the service is second to none. They don’t rush you out the door and are always checking to make sure all is good. You can even take in some of the entertainment which is sit back...and enjoy and not overly loud - definitely worth. Trip to Glace BayMore
