Not for the health conscious eaters, but if you're looking for tasty deep fried battered fish n chips, this place is it! Salad portions were really good too. Service was super friendly and down to earth.

Lightly dusted Clams. They are very liberal with the amount of clams. Sitting there, looking at the pictures you feel the pride and history these folks have in their place. Great character, outside picnic tables for those getting take-out.

Voted best Fish 'n' Chips in Nova Scotia and perhaps Canada. Large portions of good fish and lots of fries. Small 'hole-in-the-wall' type of place, with a huge following. We rarely eat in, but prefer to do take-out.

John's Lunch has been around for about 50 years and is renowned for their fish and chips. The interior hasn't changed much since it opened but it's clean and the food is really great. Unless you're really hungry or used to eating a big fish...More

Found the fish a little greasy, and the chips were soggy by the time I got them home. They do give you a very good sized portion and the service is always excellent. But everywhere I go they pretty well all taste the same, except...More

Great place for fried fish, clams and scallops. They serve pizza and burgers but didn't try them. Old school diner with counter and table seating right out of the 60's. Picnic tables outside. Friendly staff and cooks make you feel at home. The fried clams...More

This place had been on my radar since moving to Halifax a year ago. I'd heard mixed reviews, from best fish n chips in HRM to the greasiest you'll ever eat. Today I gave it a try and now have my own opinion. I did...More

Has to be one of the best places in all of HRM for fish and clams. However one area needing improvement are the fries. Based on fish I'd certainly score John's 5 out of 5 however many places in town have much better fries. Especially...More

My first visit to John's lunch was okay. The portions are large, so go with an appetite! I did find the fare a bit more greasy than I'd like, but it was still hot tasty, and promptly served. So, for a fish n'chip venue, I'd...More
