The Prospector is famous for its prime rib but I usually start with the chowder or beef and barley soup, fresh hot buns and salad bar. Then the choice is between the prime rib or the salmon. The atmosphere is cool and the restaurant is in an old bank building. The staff are very good and the service is excellent.

Way over priced.... And the food wasn't so great. I think all of the positive reviews must be coming from people associated with the restaurant.

We are from Texas and are used to eating outstanding beef. When we asked around for good places to eat in Thunder Bay, we were told Prospector. Called to make reservations and were told we really didn't need them. When we got there we were met with a warm hospitality and the smells of a real steakhouse kitchen. Just like... More

Cannot count the number of times I have eaten here and brought any out of town friends who want to return when they visited again.

My buddy and I were in Thunder Bay on a business trip and had this place recommended to us. No reservations taken for less than 5 persons but we only had about 15 minute wait at the bar. I had an 8 oz. prime rib while Gerry had shrimp. The prime rib was nice and rare, beautifully tender with only... More

steak was over cooked, as was the vegetables, Caesar salad was very week to say the least. service was good and fast. Over rated as far as a good steakhouse. Average at best. But if you love a good hunk of beef the Prime Rib looks really good

Food is awesome. I usually get the prime rib. The buns are to die for. If you are in Thunder Bay it's a must go to place :)

Me and my family have been going to the prospector for many years but after our last visit yesterday we will not be going back. They charge five star prices for two star meals. Nothing wrong with the food, but you can get much better dining experience for the prices they charge. For a chicken breast meal and salad bar... More
