I used to go here quite a bit, but it has been going downhill for a while. Went back recently, ordered a beer - something was definitely wrong with the keg so we mentioned it to the waitress who started rudely yelling so the whole place could hear that we were wrong about the beer (which had no carbonation and... Johnny G's is a nice basic spot for an old style breakfast. The food is what you'd expect but the service is terrible. On this visit the server stood outside smoking and chatting on the phone. Once in a while she would pop in to check on coffee and food. If you didn't get your food or whatever you needed... More

What a lovely wee diner and the food is top notch. Server was friendly and efficient. We were there for breakfast, the Benedict Florentine and the Western Omelette were both very good. Excellent homefries. Good strong coffee, bottomless cup!

Great service. Good food. Like a place out of the past. You get what you order with good portions. A place all the locals in the neighborhood frequently visit.

This small and warm place is a good option for having brunch, good food & great service. If you don't know what to order you can ask for some recommendations and they won't disappoint you !!

Had breakfast here on our last morning in TO at daughter's suggestion. She had lived in this area years ago and came to this spot every Saturday while her doing her laundry across the street. Same lady is serving there! It had a welcoming, homey atmosphere. I only wish I'd know about this spot earlier in my travels to TO.

Just had a fantastic lunch at this Parliament Street Icon. Love the atmosphere and friendly staff and the burger and fries were to die for! PIC is of the Johnny G signature burger. We asked for our fries to be extra crispy and they were perfect.

I used to go to this restaurant all the time. Hadn't been back for awhile. Took a friend and explained how great the place was. New owner and boy has everything changed. The food was unbelievably bad and the owner, who was also our server was just plain nuts almost violent. She asked how the meal was and we told... More

I'm not a critical person but lunch at this establishment was a colossal disappointment. I ordered one of their feature lunch specials, a peameal and cheddar sandwich with choice of soup or fries ($9.95). I chose the soup, which was advertised as a cream of cauliflower. When my order arrived, I was immediately struck by how small my sandwich was,... More

This is a hard review! This place has been here for ages and is a real legend of a place, it sits on the corner of Carlton and Parliament. It has great windows that open the whole place up to the comings and goings in this great neighbourhood. Everyone knows Johnny G's, and I guess most people have been for... More

Staying in Downtown

Neighbourhood Profile
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
