This was by far the worst experience I've ever had at a restaurant. I ordered eggs benedict and my friend ordered a regular breakfast with scrambled eggs and bacon. Our server was a senior lady, very nice, but also very slow. She made me calculate our bills using my phone because she didn't know how to do it. On top... More

Feel like living dangerously? Eat here. Don't let it's grungy appearance fool you, it's not even affordable. The waitress was the sweetest little old lady but needs to retire. My coffee mug was served with lipstick on it. There was dried egg yolk on my fork. I ordered eggs Benedict, which the waitress confused with eggs florentine. At least it... More

The exterior of the Golden Griddle on 45 Carlton is not very pleasing to the eyes but I decided to give it a chance. I was greeted by a host who looked like he was in deep depression. The waitress was very kind no complaints on how she served. I started with a glass of water and coffee, my coffee... More

It's cheap, but we call it the "awful waffle". The buffet is...dismal. New product is simply poured in over the old, so don't dig too deep in the scramble egg tray. For cheap post drinking eats, go for it, but it's not a place we go to more than once a year and leave, vaguely concerned for our souls.

I was there with mates from Ryerson and the food was long in coming and then they got the order wrong and we felt like they wanted us to accept the food as it was. Not worth the money and the staff was not attentive. There are lots of better and cheaper places in the neighborhood. Won't be back.

Your looking for the best waitress in town? Look no further. Late night we walk into the Golden Griddle and there in Norma. Wonderful woman, funny personable and good service. Learned a lot about her and her story of coming to Toronto. If we had more than what we had on hand to tip her we would have. The food... More

I went here for breakfast and was extremely disappointed. The plate had a lot of home fried potatos that tasted a bit fishy and the bacon was really greasy. The scrambled eggs were cold which was surprising as there were only 3 tables with people. The cost was over $12, and just not worth it. Give this place a pass.... More

This restaurant was across the street from our hotel. My wife insisted we go there, twice! I could have lived without the experience. The first time I ordered the eggs Benedict, I ordered it with the peameal ham expecting "canadian bacon" I got ham and I think it had a hint of curry in it. The Mrs had blueberry pancakes... More

We stopped here for breakfast and my husband ordered a fried egg sandwich which was not on the menu.. It was okay nothing special. I ordered the crepe but what was served was like a thin pancake uncooked and filled with canned apples. This was returned and I opted to skip other choices.

1: Chicken Parm. was like a Chicken Cracker - bottom 5 of all time; 2: Lamb was dry'd out and left 75% on my plate. 3: Greek Salad was Excellent. 4. House Red wine was VERY BAD - had to add sugar and water (I know that is a sacrilege).

Staying in Downtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
